Here’s to starting the journey towards a better life…

It’s about the right energy, not the right qualifications

When Gary Douglas asked Christopher Hughes to come manage his shop an antique mall,
Chris didn’t want to do it at first, but he agreed to do it for just a few months. He knew nothing
about antiques, but he knew that he liked them and that the energy of the business seemed to
match his interest in elegance and sales.

Gary hired him based on his energy, not on his qualifications. One tool for kick starting your
business is being willing to hire people who match the energy of what your business or service
is. Ask yourself: Will they contribute to creating something greater and making you money?

The staff you hire don’t have to become your friends

Just because you hire staff, doesn’t mean you have to be best friends with all of them. It’s
important to remember this in your business.

Don’t feel bad about letting people go. You’ve made up your mind that letting people go is
always a bad thing, but what if it isn’t?
What if you were actually giving that person more freedom to actually create something different
in their lives. Because if it isn’t working for you, the chances are, it’s not working for them.

Asking questions and reevaluating often is so important

Asking questions is a fabulous thing. One great way to kick start your business, whether it’s one
that you’ve had for years or one you’re just starting, is to take things like your profits and losses
and reevaluate them often.

Look at your expenses, and ask: Where is the money going? Have a look at your financials, not
from conclusion, but from question, so you actually have some clarity.

When he first began managing the antique shop, Chris sat down and had a coffee with every
single staff member. Not to be friends with them, but to get information about what people were
doing, just by asking, “What’s an average day look like for you?”

Create your business as a choice, not a necessity

If you create your business as a choice, so much more will show up for you. Wake up in the
morning and ask: Is this working for me today?

You don’t need any justification to take a day off, and in fact, it’s often beneficial to you and your
business to take a step back and allow your business to create itself as well. Don’t smother it.

Choice and question are the two biggest things to help out in kick starting your business, Ask
yourself: What if it didn’t look like what I thought it should look like and what would it take for this
to be created with ease?
