MUSIC OF SILENCE

His nickname is Amos Bardi, but his real name is Andrea Bocelli. He was born in
September 1958 in Tuscany – Italy.
When he was 3 years old he had eyes surgery because he was born with glaucoma,
this pathology caused him to gradually lose his sight. During his childhood he
enjoyed spending time on the tractor on the farm.
Once, while he was playing football with his friends, he was hit with the ball in his
eyes and this caused him to lose his vision. His family got hit very hard, especially
his mom.
In 1973, he entered to study at Lajático high school and he was bullied by his teacher
by his condition. Because of this event he met who would later be his great friend.
Amos wanted to be a lawyer so he decided to study law.
Eventually he learned to fend for himself, his friend taught him how to ride a
motorbike and he took him to know different places. One day his friend took him to
a bar, he had his first sexual experience and came home drunk.
His family consisted of his father, his mother, his younger brother and his uncle
Giovanni, the latter being fundamental in his life. They enjoyed going for a walk
together, in the summer they would go to the beach and accompany him at every
moment of his life.
He had a talent for singing lyrical music and he auditioned for a contest called "A
singing contest". He won the contest. He was once invited to sing to a marriage, but
the presentation was a disaster because he had difficulty singing and he felt very
unwell. His voice was changing for adolescence.
In 1984 he graduated as a lawyer, but he is still dedicated to lyrical music. He decides
to study music, due to his disability, Hector his friend records the texts for Amos to
listen to and learn techniques. He takes classes to learn to breathe.
In 1989 he married Elena and on 31 May 1993 he was the opening act for Lucciano
Pavarotti.
