MOVEMENT OF AN ASTEROID

1) Asteroids move at an average speed 25 km s¯¹. Most asteroids are

in asteroid belt. However, there are some asteroid orbits that are
outside of the asteroid belts, such as the orbits of Apollo, Amor
and Aten.

2) Orbits that are outside the asteroid belt can be near or even
intersect with the orbit of the Earth.

3) Collisions can happen between asteroids and the Earth at the

intersection point or trails near the orbit of the Earth and orbit of
the asteroids.

4) Collisions with large asteroids can result in the destruction of

living things on Earth.
