THE CHAIN OF COMMAND
Part of an organizational plan is the development of
the organization's leadership structure. This structure
is arranged according to each team member's respon-
sibilities. For example, at the top of an organizational
structure (i.e, corporate ladder) is the president.
In the case of a school, the administrator is at the
top of the organizational ladder. The administrator is
followed by the principal, supervisors, monitors, and

finally the students. Each team member has specific
work responsibilities.
The farther up the ladder one moves, the broader the
scope of responsibility becomes. Going up the ladder
there are superiors. Coming down the ladder there are
subordinates. Each person has certain responsibilities
and particular functions within a chain of command.
‘These individuals all interrelate to one another on the
basis of established principles and policies.
When leadership principles are violated or policies
broken, an indiscretion has occurred. This indiscretion
causes frustration within the organization. It should be
no surprise that indiscretions sown at the beginning of a
school year will germinate throughout the year and often.
produce a “crop” of much larger problems.
Tris not usually the big problem that catches a school
staff off guard, but the little ones. Little complications
become big complications, if not properly managed.
Failing to meet one’s responsibilities always results in
some form of monkey business.
