2019–20 Australian bushfire season

The 2019–20 Australian bushfire season is a series of bushfires, also known around the world
as “wildfires”, that are currently burning across Australia, predominantly in the south-east.
The fires in Australia have been burningfor months, consuming nearly 18 million acres of
land and destroying over 5,900 buildings (including over 2,204 homes). At least 28 people
have died, and an estimated one billion animals have also been killed and some endangered
species may be driven to extinction

They're showing minimal signs of slowing down, however, the Australian state of New South
Wales, where both Sydney and Canberra are located, declared a state of emergency this week,
as worsening weather conditions could lead to even greater fire danger.
