Task sheet:

Task A: Listening for gist:


Task would be given before playing the audio.
Task: Learners are given the title of the audio and are asked to write
3 questions they would like to find the answers to in the audio. They
then listen to the audio to find out if their questions are answered in
the audio (1).
Title of the audio: Try something new for 30 days.

Task B: Listening for specific information:


Learners to listen to the audio and answer a set of open questions
(e.g. what? Where? Who? Etc) about the audio as they listen to it.

Q1. What is the simple idea the speaker is suggesting in the audio?

Q2. What kind of habits the speaker is talking about?

Q3. How did the taking a picture everyday help the speaker?

Q4. Where did the speak go for hiking? How did it help?
Q5. What suggestions does the speaker give in order to write a novel
in 30 days?

Q6. What terms does the speaker use to describe small and big
changes?

Q7. What changes did he see in himself after the challenges?

Answers to task b:
1. Try something new for 30 days
2. Adding habits like bike to work, take a picture everyday, 10,000
steps a day, write a novel and subtract habits like no sugar, no
TV, no twitter, no caffeine
3. Time was memorable. He remembered exactly where he was
and what he was doing that day.
4. Mt. Kilimanjaro, he became adventurous.
5. No sleep, write 16,067 words a day.
6. Small changes= sustainable, big changes= crazy fun
7. Self confidence grew, became adventurous, created another
identity for himself, time came memorable, no more in the rut.

Task C: Freer Speaking


Preparation time: teacher mentions about parts A and B to students
and gives them preparation time of about two- three minutes (2).
Then, work with a partner on the following:
A. Discuss with a partner. Have you ever tried to add or subtract
some habit from your life for 30 days in the past. What exactly
did you do each day. What benefits did you experience due to
this habit change?
B. Is there anything, you would like to add or subtract from your
life in future. Discuss with your partner and share what would
you add/subtract, how and why?
