B. Conduit and Cable sealing work space Requirements


In Class I, Zone 0 locations, (1) Conduit Seals. Seals shall be provided
within 3.05 m (10 ft) of where a conduit leaves a Zone 0 location. There
shall be no unions, couplings, boxes, or fittings, except listed reducers at
the seal, in the conduit run between the seal and the point at which the

B1 conduit leaves the location. Exception: A rigid unbroken conduit that

passes completely through the Zone 0 location with no fittings less than
300 mm (12 in.) beyond each boundary shall not be required to be
sealed if the termination points of the unbroken conduit are in
unclassified locations.

Cable Seals. Seals shall be provided on cables at the first point of NEC Article

termination after entry into the Zone 0 location. 505.16 (A)(2)
In Class I, Zone 1 locations, seals shall be located in accordance with
the following:
(1) Type of Protection “d” or “e” Enclosures. Conduit seals shall be NEC Article
B3
provided for each conduit entering enclosures having type of protection 505.16 (B)(1)
“d” or “e.” Exception: Where the enclosure having type of protection
“d” is marked to indicate that a seal is not required.
Explosion proof Equipment. Conduit seals shall be provided for each
conduit entering explosion proof equipment according to (a), (b), and (c).
(a) In each conduit entry into an explosion proof enclosure where either
(1) the enclosure contains apparatus,(2) the entry is metric designator 53
(trade size 2) or larger and the enclosure contains terminals, splices, or
taps.

enclosure. Only explosion proof unions, that are not larger than the trade
size of the conduit shall be permitted between the sealing fitting and the
explosion proof enclosure
(c) Where two or more explosion proof enclosures for which conduit
seals are required , are connected by nipples or by runs of conduit not
more than 900 mm (36 in.) long.

Pressurized Enclosures. Conduit seals shall be provided in each


conduit entry into a pressurized enclosure where the conduit is not NEC Article

pressurized as part of the protection system. Conduit seals shall be 505.16 (B)(3)
installed within 450 mm (18 in.) from the pressurized enclosure.

Class I, Zone 1 Boundary. Conduit seals shall be provided in each


conduit run leaving a Class I, Zone 1 location. The sealing fitting shall be
permitted on either side of the boundary of such location within 3.05 m
(10 ft) of the boundary and shall be designed and installed so as to

accumulation of wetted salt (NaCl).

The field junction box, in a Class I, Zone 2 location and in non-


hazardous areas, shall be a single door NEMA Type 4X or IEC 60529
Type IP 66 box. The box construction shall meet the following
requirements: 7.2.1 Type 316 stainless steel body, door and hardware.
7.2.2 Continuously welded seams, finished smooth.
7.2.3 Continuous stainless steel hinge with removable pin.

C. Enclosures & Associated workspace Requirements
Class I, Division 2. In Class I, Division 2 locations, meters, instruments,
and relays shall comply with 501.3(B)(1) through (B)(6).
That is all meters, instruments, and relays, including kilowatt-hour
meters, instrument transformers, resistors, rectifiers, and
thermionic tubes, shall be provided with enclosures identified for Class I,

C1 Division 1 locations. Enclosures for ClassI, Division 1
501.3(B)
locations include explosion proof enclosures and purged and pressurized
enclosures.
Alternatively, equipment shall be permitted to be marked to indicate the
temperature class for which it is suitable, using the
temperature class (T Code) of Table 500.8(B).- See Attachment 3

Spaces About Electrical Equipment. Sufficient access and working space

C2 shall be provided and maintained about all electric equipment to permit

ready and safe operation and maintenance of such equipment.

Depth of Working Space. The depth of the working space in the direction
of live parts shall not be less than that specified in Table 110.26(A)(1)
(Attachment 2) unless the requirements of110.26(A)(1)(a), (b), or (c) are
met. (a) Dead-Front Assemblies where all connections and all renewable
or adjustable parts, are accessible. (b) Low Voltage. By special NEC Article

permission, smaller working spaces shall be permitted where all un- 110.26(A)(1)
insulated parts operate at not greater than 30 volts rms, 42 volts peak, or
60 volts dc.
(c) Existing Buildings. In existing buildings where electrical equipment is
being replaced,

Terminals Wiring connections shall be made to channel (rail) mounted


terminal blocks. These terminal blocks shall have tubular box clamp

Instrument Piping and Tubing The instrument piping and tubing
installation shall ensure It is possible to test all alarm and shutdown 34-SAMSS-831,

initiating devices, without interfering with the process operation of the Sec. 8.3
packaged unit.
Instrument tubing shall be adequately supported to eliminate any
vibration transmission to the instruments or excessive load to the piping
connection, process line or vessel. Tubing to and from non-indicating 34-SAMSS-831,

instruments shall have a plugged tee or equivalent test point for Sec. 8.3
calibration and testing purposes. All threaded connections shall be
tapered per ASME B1.20.1.
All incoming and outgoing interconnection lines shall terminate in
bulkhead fittings. The lines shall be marked with the tag numbers of the

C12 corresponding instruments. Bulkhead fittings shall be installed with
