In each exercise guidance for the task or a full example answer is usually given so that no presentation or explanation is required from the teacher. The exercise types are similar in style to those in the course books. No new material is presented and unknown vocabulary is avoided. The two-page Revision unit which begins this Practice Book reviews the main structures and vocabulary taught in Way Ahead 3. The rest of the book is arranged in 18 units to match the course book, with three pages of exercises and one revision page which consolidates the work covered in the unit. Practice book exercises should be done after the material in the Pupil's Book and the Workbook has been completed In this Practice Book the emphasis is on grammar, using vocabulary introduced in the Pupil's Book. The grammar progression matches the course books exactly. Each Practice Book unit begins with a Grammar Box. This sets out the main grammar point taught in the Pupil’s Book unit. Children can refer back to the Grammar box, as necessary, as they complete the exercises. Punctuation is covered systematically, beginning with simple sentences. In this book the correct use of capital letters, commas, exclamation marks, question marks and speech marks are all explained, practised and recycled At the end of the book there are nineteen pages of handwriting practice. These begin with pattern practice to prepare children for joined cursive writing. The fours methods of joining are introduced, practised and recycled before children begin to copy longer pieces of writing onto grids. Poems, fiction and non-fiction texts reflecting the Pupil’s Book content are included and children have practice in copying a letter set out in formal style. The written pieces can also be used for practise in reading aloud in groups, pairs or individually. Answers to all exercises in this book are included in Way Ahead Teacher's Book 4.
