Procedures

Choose a spot away from a friend that you might be


tempted to talk to.

Get a drink and use the bathroom before you begin


reading, so you can remain seated.

Please be quiet.

If you are stuck on a word, sound it out, try and find the
meaning from the context of the sentence, or write it
down on a Post-It to look up later.

Select from the reading material in your book box:


A Chapter Book
A Magazine
A Poetry Book
A Nonfiction Book
A Picture Book

Write down thoughts about your reading in your


Reading Response Journal, or tag a page you want to
discuss with a Post-It.

Use the I PICK and 5 finger methods to choose new


books at the library or before class begins.

When you hear the bell, stop reading and listen for
instructions.
