Chapter 1: Introduction
This section provides an overview of this document and the prerequisites
required to migrate your Datacard® ID Works 6.5® or
Datacard® IDCentre™ 6.5 software project to the Datacard®
TruCredential 7.1 or later software environment.
Important Notes
• Do not install TruCredential software on the same computer on which you have
installed ID Works or IDCentre software. Use a dedicated computer for the
TruCredential software to avoid potential port and smart card conflicts.
• The migration process completes most of the conversion work. However, due to the
differences in the software applications, manual steps might be required to complete
the process.
• Bar codes might display differently in TruCredential software than they did in
ID Works software.
• Hardware support differences: before migrating to TruCredential software, make
sure that it supports your printer, camera, scanner, or other hardware.
• “Saved Searches” in ID Works are not migrated or supported in TruCredential
software, which has no concept of a “saved search”.
• Projects are not migrated to TruCredential software, which does not support them.
• Custom code written for ID Works software cannot be migrated to TruCredential
software.
This is an example of a note. Notes contain special information that you should be sure
to read carefully.
2 Introduction
ID Works or IDCentre Software to TruCredential
Software Migration Prerequisites
You must have the following to complete the migration process:
• TruCredential software must be installed and running on the destination computer.
• You must be a TruCredential software administrator to complete the migration
process.
This section provides the information that you need to export
ID Works 6.5 software projects to files that can be migrated to
TruCredential software.
1. Run Datacard ID Works software as an Administrator.
2. Select Tools > Export Projects.
3. From the list of projects available, select the projects that you want to export.
4. (Optional) To include magnetic stripe configurations, select the box for that option.
5. Click Browse and select the folder to which you want to export the project(s).
6. Click Export. Click OK when you see the success message, and close or minimize the
ID Works Administrator application.
• The production form
• Card designs
• Field connections
• The data source
• Images, if applicable
• The Microsoft Access database only if it was created by ID Works 6.5 software (no
external databases are included)
3. Select the settings icon > Settings > Tools > Migration.
4. On the Migration page, click Browse and locate the folder to which you saved the
.iwx files exported from ID Works software. Select one or more files to import. Click
Open.
5. On the Migration page, select any appropriate options:
Prefix project name to production forms and card designs
Rename “production form” to “workflow”
Rename “card design” to “credential design”
6. Click Import to begin the migration process. A migration summary window displays
information about the progress of the migration. Click Close to return to the
Migration page.
7. After migration is complete, a Migration Summary window displays detailed
information about the process. Click Close.
8. The Migration page now displays a table that shows all migrated projects.
• An unsupported image format, Adobe Photoshop 3.0 (.psd) or Targa (.tga), is used
for the Photo field in the Production Form.
• Any card’s print job identifier field is not mapped to a production form field in field
connections.
• Data source migration that is ODBC‐DSN‐based is not supported.
• A project from software earlier than ID Works 6.5 is not supported.
• The original ID Works software exported project file (.iwx) was renamed.
• Duplicate names for a workflow, credential design, or data source exist in the file.
• The Microsoft Access database file (.mdb) is not included in the ID Works software
project file (.iwx).
This section provides the information that you need after the migration
to TruCredential software is complete.
Do this mapping before attempting to open a migrated, data‐driven workflow.
Otherwise, you cannot save the workflow.
where installation_directory is the directory where TruCredential software was
installed. By default, this directory is C:\Program Files\Datacard\TruCredential\.
The Microsoft Access database path was configured as a custom path, rather
than a default path.
• If the Microsoft SQL Server database is password protected and the password was
not saved in ID Works, enter the password in TruCredential software.
• Make sure that the TCP/IP port settings under <SQL Server Network Configuration>
lists port 1433 or else you can not connect to the data source.
• If the Oracle data source configured in ID Works software used a TNS service name in
ID Works software, enter the database server name in the migrated data source
configuration in TruCredential software.

Chapter 5: Differences
Between ID Works Software
and TruCredential Software
This section provides information about the differences between
ID Works software and TruCredential software.
Behavioral Differences
Print job identifier: This is a card property in ID Works software, whereas it is a workflow
personalize step field in TruCredential software.
Data driven: Copied values of List or Check Box fields in the Variable Graphic field can be
further modified in ID Works software to configure a graphic. Therefore, modified values
of the List or Check Box field are taken into consideration to configure data‐driven
graphic properties in TruCredential software.
• The production form’s size
• The production form’s background color or graphic
• The Binary field
• The Event field
