CHAPTER ONE Notes on the Low E String ‘The names of the notes on the low E string will be shown below on a fretboard diagram. To read a fretboard diagram, just imagine that you are looking down at a picture of the neck of the guitar, with the headstock to the left and the body of the guitar to the right. The fret numbers below the diagram correspond to the dots on the neck of the guitar. ny Below are the notes on the sixth, or lowest-sounding string up to the 12th fret. First, listen to the example on the accompanying cassette or CD so you know what it should sound like. (Each ‘numbered example is demonstrated so you can make sure you are doing itright.) As you play up and down through the notes in example 1, say their names out loud until you think you've got them memorized reasonably well.
