This disaplay offers to show Current time and date from Satellite, Temperature and Humidity
alongwith Various air quality parameters such as CO, PM2.5 and PM10 along with calculated Air
Quality Inciex (AQI) Gepening upon the above parameters.
Itisimportant to communicate the effects of pollution to public and improve general awareness.
Air pollution is a public health hazard showing shorterm effects and perticularly bad long term
effects.
Particle pollution (PM stands for particulate matter)
The term for a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air. Some particles, such as
dust, dirt, soot, or smoke, ate large or dark enough to be seen with the naked eye. Others are so
small they can only be detected using an eleciron microscope. When inhaled they can travel
deep into lungs and con aggrevate heart and lung diseases.
The long term (chronic) effects can be Reduced lung function, Development of respiratory
diseases in children, Aggravation of existing lung diseases, Premature death of people with lung or
heart disease etc.
Children are perticularly susseptable to these effects as their lungs are still developing and they
spen more time in actity. Also the PM pollution is very high near to ground thus affectinf children
more than adults.
Primary sources of particulate matier are incomplete combustion, Automobile emissions, Dust,
Cooking and Chemical reactions in the atmosphere are secondary sources
PMI0 - Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM / PM10)
Inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 10 micrometers and smaller
PM2.5 - Fine Particulate Matter
Fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 2.5 micrometers and smaler. These
particles are more deadly than PM10.
Fine particles (PM2.5) are the main cause of reduced visibility (haze)
co
CO is c colorless, odor less gas thot can be harmful when inhaled in large amounts. CO is also
same weight as air thus it is mixed evenly in air and diffused easily.
CO is released when something is bumed. The greatest sources of CO to outdoor air are cors,
trucks and other vehicles or machinery that burn fossil fuels.
A variety of items in your home such as unvented kerosene and gas heaters, leaking fumaces,
Leaking from garage, incoming pollution from traffic on road, and gas stoves also release CO and
can affect air quality indoors.
CO can go up to very high levels in indoors or in other enclosed environments due continuous
accumulation or lack of ventilation. This high level of CO can cause dizziness, concentration,
contusion, unconsciousness and even death.

People with heart problems are likely to suffer from more frequent and longer angina attacks, and
they would be al greater risk of heart attack. Children and unborn babies are particularly at risk
because they ore smaller and their bodies are stil growing and developing
What's being done to manage carbon monoxide?
Because raised levels of carbon monoxide can have significant impacts on human health, various
steps are taken to manage and reduce the amount of carbon monoxide produced. These
include:
+ implementing national fuel quality standards;
* promoting alternative fuels like Solar, Electricity, Winds and
* supporting the implementation of tighter vehicle emission standards Bharat 5, Euros,
AQI - Air quality index
AGlis a number used by goverment agencies to communicate fo the public how polluted the
gir curently is or how polluted itis forecast to become. As the AGI increases, an increasingly large
percentage of the population is ikely ta experience increasingly severe adverse health effects
The AQIis an index for reporting daily air quality. It tells you how clean or polluted your airis, and
what associated health effects might be a concen for you, The AGI focuses on health effects you
may experience within o few hours or days offer breathing poluted air.
AGI is calculated from different pollution mesures of air such as particulate matter (PM10 or PM2.5
‘or both) and goseues pollutants such as CO, NOx, SOx, Ozone ete.
What do the AQI values mean?
The purpose of the AQIis to help you understand what local air quality means to your health. To
make it easier to Understand, the AQI is divided into six levels of health concem:
