The Title of
ELECTRODEPOSITION OF NICKEL-GRAPHENE COMPOSITES
Synopsis
ON MILD STEEL.

Synopsis
1. Introduction
Electroplating is an economically important process, often used to reduce corrosion and improve
the appearance of objects. During electroplating a thin layer of desirable metal is deposited onto
another object. The effect of some process parameters on the weight and thickness of metal
deposited on mild steel in a typical electroplating process.

The current trend of research on the mild steel which are effected by corrosion, becomes more
expensive even though the amount of metal destroyed is quite small at critical position. Hence it
is important to understand the factors which are influencing the corrosion and their prevention
methods to increase the life of the equipment.

2. Methodology
Electroplating is to be carried out on the low carbon steel (nickel and graphene composites)
samples using electroplating bath concentrations by immersing the samples for constant time
at a certain temperature with additives added into the solution in the electroplating bath.
After electroplating, the sample is to rinsed in distilled water and dried in saw dust before the
final weighing. The final dimension is to be taken by the use of vernier calipers for the
thickness of the deposition.

3. Plan of work
Currently we have gone through various research papers, and studied the properties of the
deposition and various aspects that need to be determine in this project. As per literature survey
we have planned to electrodeposit a nickel graphene as a protective coating on mild steel. And
further modifying its surface.

The following parameter is to be obtained after the deposition :-

• Characterization of graphene
• XRD analysis.
• The Vickers micro-hardness.
• Friction and wear behavior.
