Report on One-Day Seminar

On
Business Environment and Social Sustainability

To make the students aware of the Sustainability in business environment, Jaipuria Institute
of Management, Noida, organized a seminar on Business Environment and Social
Sustainability for the students of PGDM general, on 11th January, 2020.
The seminar consisted of three panel members CMA Sanjeev Goel, Dr. Manoj Kumar, and
Mr. Rajesh Kumar Agarwal.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, a management professional was the esteemed guest for the session. Dr.
Manoj has more than twenty years of experience in industry ad academics in the areas of
Marketing, Retail, Fashion, International business etc.
The guest was heartily welcomed and introduced to the class by one of the Coordinators.
The session began with an overview of Social sustainability and its implementation in Business
according to Environment. To give the students an idea of it, he discussed about the major
issues in different places of the world like food scarcity, pollution, inequality and emphasized
on the biggest issue which is forced migration.
He also discussed about how improper utilization of resources are leading to unsustainable
businesses.
Mr. Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, AGM(Fin), Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (A Navratna PSU
of Govt. of India, priorly he was associated with Nuclear power corporation of India Ltd.
(NPCIL), he has more than twenty years of experience in Finance, commerce and accounts.
During the session, the speaker made students understand that People, Profit, and Planet are
the three things that make a company sustainable when it takes care of all three by the “Nestle”
sustainability case study example and Laxman Prasad Pathadi example. He said, a company
must distribute losses to stay sustainable. He also quoted “Good for country means Good for
company”.
At the end of the session to wrap up the discussion, CMA Sanjeev Goel, visiting faculty of
Jaipuria institute of management, Noida, discussed more about Social sustainability and
Business environment.
As per the feedback received from the students, the session was valuable and helpful in
understanding the Social sustainability and its importance in the business and provided a good
learning experience to the students.
