AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE
ENGINEER

AME COURSE BRIEF
OVERVIEW
AME is just a certification course
comprising of theoretical & practical
training which makes you eligible for
writing DGCA AME licence exam, taken
in different modules depending upon
which stream you have chosen i.e
Mechanical or Avionics. So only after
clearing these exams you get AME
licence issued and don't be mistaken
by the term " ENGINEERING " as it's
just a licence, not considered as a
degree or diploma.
Note : Institutewise you may be
offered for any degree/graduation
course along with your AME course
AGE LIMIT
Minimum age should be 16 yrs at the
time of admission and maximum upto
28 yrs is allowed, plus as per DGCA an
applicant for an AME licence must be
18 yrs old
Note : Institute wise age limit for
admission varies a bit
MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
You need to obtain a medical
certificate from a registered medical
practitioner with minimum MBBS
qualification to certify that you have
no physical disability or colour
blindness i.e no vision related
problem. Specs are allowed though
AME SCHOOLS &
ADMISSION
You can enroll in any Govt/Private AME
institute as per their induction criteria
it could be direct admission or via
entrance exam depending upon your
institute, but makesure that AME
institute is approved by DGCA.

JOB PROFILE
An AME is responsible for overall
inspection and maintenance of an
airplane/helicopter including servicing,
repairing, overhaul,
modification and to take necessary
action when required to ensure
all systems are working fine and
continue to perform its function
for which it's designed in terms of
safety and reliability or in other
words without an AME certification no
airplane/helicopter can be
released to fly

This license is issued under different
categories as per your stream, module
exams cleared and practical
experience you have as stated below
1- Category A - Minor Line
Maintenance
2- Category B1 ( Mechanical ) - Major
Base Maintenance
3- Category B2 ( Avionics ) - Major Base
Maintenance
4- Category B3
5- Category C

EDUCATIONAL
QUALIFICATION
1) Minimum 10 + 2 pass with physics,
chemistry and maths from any
recognised board or university or its
equivalent OR
2) Diploma candidates with
Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics
are also allowed OR
3) Any higher qualification with
physics and maths like B.Sc or Btech is
also allowed
Note : DGCA has not mentioned any
minimum percentage bar but
institutewise induction criteria varies
 IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING ADMISSION
There are some private organisations who are conducting AME national level
common entrance exam ( AME CET ) for admission purpose and claiming that its
approved and conducted under DGCA but that's totally fake and illegal,so don't
register or pay anything in these kind of websites without verifying, you can read

JOB OR PLACEMENT
There is no placement or job
guarantee/assistance from institute
side as per information i have
gathered and after your course they
will only give you Certificate of
Completion nothing else, for obtaining
AME licence you need to clear all DGCA
module exams plus also need to gain
required experience as well, also do
note that your OJT experience is not
counted as actual work experience,
though you can apply for aircraft
technician post after AME course but
you have to find job on your own, but
to get job in any airline you need to
gain good experience first plus you
also need to do type training course on
specific aircraft like Airbus A320 or
Boeing 737 or any other aircraft as per
the airline you join and also need to
pass DGCA written + oral exam to get
it endorsed on your AME licence.
AME TRAINING
STRUCTURE, DURATION &
COST
Course duration for AME could be
between 2-4 yrs or more as per the
institute you have chosen because
DGCA mandates 2400 hrs theoretical
knowledge which depends upon your
institute in how many years they want
to complete it + Practical Training is
also included in your course known as
On Job Training with any partnered
organisation or any airline, whose
duration totally depends upon your
course and institute you joined. So it
could be in any combination like [ 2 yrs
theory + 1 yr practical ] OR [ 2 yr theory
+ 2 yr practical ] OR [ 2.5 yr theory + 6
months practical ] OR any other.
Total cost could be approx between 3 -
6 lakhs or more depending upon your
institute
Note : OJT or On job Training is just a
part of your training, you won't get
any kind of salary so don't be mistaken
by the term "JOB " & you also need to
clear RTR exam as well
SALARY
Average starting salary of an AME is
approx 10-30K per month or even
lower and it goes upto 2-3 lakhs per
month or above as you gain more and
more experience depending upon the
organisation /airline you are working
with.

After joining as a trainee in any of the

three AAI institute your actual training
starts which may last for few weeks to
SALARY

As a trainee during training at AAI
of AAI. This training includes ab initio
institute you will get approx between
training of Control tower & Approach
35-40000 INR per month and after
Control and at the end of each phase
successful training completion when
you will be having theory exam on
you got your posting you will get

test in which you have to pass all

Flight Dispatcher
untill and unless you have been
approved by DGCA and for that you
have to do Flight Dispatcher

like Central Training Establishment,
Air India or any other and as far as i
know only CTE is approved by DGCA, i
didn't find any other organisation, so

JOB OR PLACEMENT
Doing this course doesn't guarantee
you a job. After training you will be
given Certification of Completion and
this will enable you to give DGCA Flight
Dispatcher Examination only. Institute
will not take responsibility of
providing job or any kind of assistance,
they will only take responsibility of
training completion. After that job
search is your work, you need to
regularly check for flight dispatcher
vacancies on your own
SALARY
Starting salary for a
Junior Trainee / Assistant Flight
Dispatcher is approx
10-20K INR per month depending upon
your airline/company and as you gain
more and more experience it gradually
goes upto 40-50K INR per month to few
lakhs
JOB PROFILE
A Flight Dispatcher or Flight Operation
Officer is an integral part of flight
operation responsible for safe and
expeditious departure of flights, they
are the one who prepare, file and
monitor flight plan which includes
detailed analysis of meteorological
information to determine potential
hazards and to select the most
desirable and economic route, amount
of fuel required for the safe
completion of flight according to type
of aircraft, distance of flight,
maximum allowable takeoff and
landing weights, standard instrument
departures, briefing the crew on the
route analysis, delaying or cancelling
any flight in unsafe conditions,
NOTAM, runway conditions,
maintenance limitations, search and
rescue facilities and other important
things which likely to affect the overall
flight operation OR in short without
their authorization no flight can
depart on its own

TRAINING STRUCTURE
Training program includes
a) Initial training  : This consist of basic
knowledge training and applied
practical training. On completion of
basic thoery i.e ground classes, you
have to clear Flight Dispatcher
Examination conducted by DGCA on
various aviation subjects plus
specifically on your aircraft type. After
successful completion of written exam
you will undergo practical training also
known as On Job Training for few
months, then post completion you will
have Oral/Practical test conducted by
DGCA to demonstrate your proficiency
level
b) Type training : This is required to
gain qualification on the aircraft
model and its variants that you have
been assigned, for example Airbus 321
or Boeing 777
Note : You also need to obtain RTR(A))
license to work as a flight dispatcher
