Course Objective
The objective of this course is to strengthening students understanding of Quality and
Reliability Engineering knowledge to acquire relevant skill for applying them into real practice in
managing construction projects.
1. Quality definition – The concept of quality and its understanding, Nepalese construction
industry and quality issues.
2. Evolution of quality management and major contributions of quality Gurus in the field of
quality development.
3. QA/QC/QI – understanding and practices, quality management systems.
4. Quality cost – understanding of quality cost, quality management and failure cost.
5. Quality tools – flow chart, check list, histogram, Pareto analysis, cause and effect
diagrams, brain storming, statistical process control.
6. Quality circles – understanding and practices, possibility of use of quality circles in
construction.
7. Quality awareness – quality recognition and awards, mass awareness, quality
commitment by top level management.
8. Quality documents – manual, procedures, quality plan, project quality assurance plan.
9. Building quality organizations.
10. Value management - understanding of value management concept, value analysis,
value engineering and value management.
11. Reengineering, business process reengineering, TQM and reengineering.
12. Quality training
13. Quality standard, ISO 9000 – understanding need and applicability.
14. Quality management practices in roads and other engineering construction.
