(Your office letter) Dear Sir, The requirement of providing stiffener plates at lifting lugs of newly installed barrage gates has already been clarified vide our letter quoted at ref.1 (Copy attached). Please note that this strengthening has been necessitated due to deformation of lifting lugs in transportation of gates from China which were straightened at site through heating process and hammering that weakened the section and may cause failure during gate operation. The deformation was caused solely due to improper packing, and negligent transportation which warranted remedial measures at Contractor's end. Though it is an additional work but CCC's Mechanical Chief at site had agreed for its rectifications during installation of gate leaves Foregoing in view, Contractor's request for treating the subject work as a variation order and demand for additional costs is totally uncalled for and does not need any consideration please. Installation of lifting plate has been necessiated due to deformation Of lifting hooks in transportation of gates from China which were straightened at site through heating process that weakened the section. This was solely due to improper packing, and negligent transportation which warranted remedial measures at Contractor's own instead of ‘making it an excuse for asking extension in time. After discussion with CCC’s Mechanical Chief at site, the matter has been resolved and the stiffener plates are being installed at iting lugs. Contractor's request for extension of time, for delay in removal of coffer dams and processing of variation order for additional costs based are thus totally uncalled for and does not need any consideration.
