FORMS OF TREES AND THEIR MAINTANENCE:

Trees are the most important landscape plants .Most deciduous trees have less dominant shapes, but
each is distinctive in its own way. Trees are a type of organism that we are able to view in abundance.
Trees have different shapes based on natural tendencies or the environment. Shape & branching habit
vary with species.

The basic growth habits of trees are:

Pyramidal. Pyramidal trees give a feeling of formality or organization.

Columnar. Columnar trees provide a stately feeling. These are more often used in groups or in lines as a
series of tall sentries or sometimes as single accents.

Weeping. Weeping trees add grace and movement to most landscapes and are normally used very
sparingly as specimen trees.

Horizontal branching. Large, broad horizontal-branching trees are strong and durable and provide
many uses without becoming dominant.

Round headed. Round-headed trees provide a similar feel but with more formality.

Globe shaped. Globe-shaped trees also give a formal feel. Globe-shaped usually applies to smaller trees.

Vase shaped. Vase-shaped refers to trees that are narrow at the base and broaden at the to
MAINTANENCE OF TREES:

Provide a suitable growing environment for trees. Pick a tree meant for your area, then, find a spot that
will get enough sun and provide enough space for its full-grown canopy. We should carefully look after
trees to ensure they grow well.

Trimming/Pruning:
Also known as pruning, this is one of the most important aspects of tree maintenance. For best results,
our Arborists recommend trimming your trees every 3-5 years. Remove dead or dying branches
injured by disease, severe insect infestation, animals, storms, or other adverse mechanical damage.

Mulching:
Applying mulch is one of the best tree maintenance efforts you can do for the health of your trees.
Especially for young trees, mulching is a quick and cost-effective technique that provides numerous
benefits. Mulching insulates the roots providing a buffer from heat and cold, retains water, keeps out
weeds, prevents compaction and more.

Soil Management:
Soil management is essential to good tree maintenance. The goal of this is to keep the soil composition
balanced and enhance the quality. Soil is comprised of air, water, minerals, and organic matter. Making
sure these are balanced is critical to root growth and overall health.

Watering
For new trees, watering is extremely important. The general rule is 10 gallons of water per inch of the
trunk’s diameter. This will help it grow and not dry out. As the roots get deeper and the tree gets larger,
the tree is able to draw up water from other areas of the grow. A large tree can obtain up to 100 gallons
of water through its deep roots in a day. While older and larger trees need less maintenance, newer or
replanted trees need more regular watering to stay healthy.

PROTECTING TREES FROM CONSTRUCTION:

Protection during construction is an extremely important part of tree maintenance because the damage
that occurs during construction is irreversible. Critical root zones are very easily damaged by
construction.

When planning your new deck, patio, porch, or addition most people are focused on the look of the
finished project but few ever think about how their living landscape will be affected. Many homeowners
think because the construction is happening on the other side of the yard or far away from the tree that
it is safe. Unfortunately, they couldn’t be more wrong. Because the critical root zone extends to or past
the canopy, construction on one side of the yard can kill a tree on the other side.In order to prevent root
damage, compaction, and trunk injuries, you need to invest in a protection plan (also known as tree
preservation plan) before you start renovations.

Trees vs Buildings
Tree roots may crack foundations if planted too close to buildings Root growth may become one-sided
and cause tree to topple from high winds. Recommended setbacks:

 15 feet for small trees feet for large trees .

 20-25 feet for large trees
