SCOPE : DETERMINATION OF SPECIFIC GRAVITY OF TIMBER FORM: W/2

OBJECT - This method of test covers the procedure for determining the SPECIFIC GRAVITY of small clear specimens of timber.
TEST METHOD: IS:1708-PART-2-1986
APPARATUS -
The apparatus for the standard test shall consist of following:
A) Hot air oven to maintain temperature at 103+/-2 deg. C.
B) Balance to weight 1mg min.
TEST SAMPLE- 1. The dimension of test specimen shall be taken as 6 cm in length and 2 × 2 cm or 15 cm in length and 5 × 5 Cross-section.
TEST PROCEDURE-
The sample shall be weighed with an accuracy of 0.001g in a weighing balance. The dimension of the rectangular section should be
measured correctly to 0.01 cm and volume calculated by multiplying all the three dimensions.
