It should contain the following parts:

and others.

Two sides to the case must be explored and analyzed in depth and
logically.
Story-telling and Narrative – 10%
Thought Experiments should be formulated in the form of a story or
a narrative. They should contain their own characters, story line,
time and setting.
Reflectiveness – 20%
Give your own reflective and well-thought-out answer to the thought
experiment by either synthesizing the two sides of the coin or siding
with one.

Intra-Class Thought Experiment Debate

Dates: November 12, 14, 19, and 21 (2 weeks; first half of the session)

This will run simultaneously with logic lectures and discussion for two (2) weeks.
There will be four (4) rounds, and the winner for each round will be announced before
dismissal time. The team who will earn the highest votes from the class will win the round.
In the interest of time, there will be no championship round. You will get exempted from
taking the final exam right away after the proclamation of winners. Further, two top
debaters of the day, which will also be determined by the class through voting, will get +5
in the Logic Exam.

Guidelines

Debate format will be Asian Parliamentary Style. One camp will be the Government
side which is composed of 3 major speakers (Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, and
Government Whip), and 1 reply speaker. The other camp is the Opposition side. It is
composed of 3 major speakers as well (Leader of the Opposition, Deputy Leader of the
Opposition, Opposition Whip) and 1 reply speaker. Each major speaker is given four (4)
minutes to deliver his or her speech, and the reply speaker is given one (1) minute to
wrap arguments up. (In the case of having only three members in the group, one has to
do 2 roles (major speaker and the reply). With regard to the role of each member or
speaker, please look them up and read up on them for information. Points of information
(in the form of questioning) and interjections will be allowed in the course of the debate.
All debates are expected to be philosophical, therefore, philosophical argumentation and
questioning are highly encouraged. The whole debate, however, will only last for 30-45
minutes, to give way to logic lecture and discussion.
To give you ample time to prepare, thought experiments will be given in advance.
Please note, however, that you are not allowed to share the topic with your classmates
who are not participating in the debate, as they will still be answering the thought
experiment on their own on the day of the debate and graded accordingly. All debaters of
a scheduled topic will receive perfect 10 as their score in the thought experiment assigned
to them. All thought experiments revolve around the disciplines of ethics and moral
philosophy. (This is the reason why the competition stakes an exemption from taking the
final examination, as the final examination covers the topics of ethics and moral
philosophy.) Please come on time, prepared; debaters will not be given extra time to
prepare on the debate day itself.
