Gold Lampblack Stars (all parts are by weight)

• Potassium chlorate - 39 parts

• Potassium nitrate - 4 parts
• Barium nitrate - 6.5 parts
• Sodium oxalate - 3 parts
• Air float charcoal - 20 parts
• Lampblack - 15.5 parts
• Dextrin - 5.5 parts
• Red Gum - 6.5 parts
"Coffee mill" or screen each ingredient individually to 60 mesh or
smaller. Then diaper mix all the components, and dump into a
Ziplock freezer bag for wetting.

Add approximately 20% 50/50 water & ethanol by weight to wet,

kneading the bag in the usual manner. Cut the dampened comp into
cubes of about 10mm, using either the cut stars method or screen
cutting.

If you make 3" mines, use about 60 grams of stars and about 25
grams of 2FA (Cannon powder) to lift them.

Roll mine bags using 3 turns of newsprint around a 2.5 to 2-5/8"

former, and dump the stars in.

Put the black powder in a tissue bag, and insert quickmatch. The
mine bag is clove-hitched around the quickmatch. Plenty of bare
match should be left so you can make a safe retreat.

The effect is a gorgeous gold head with trailing charcoal/lampblack

sparks (or "fire dust").
