TOPIC: KNOWING THE LORD
TEXT: JER. 9:23-24
INTRODUCTION
In discussing this topic, we don’t really mean to focus on having a mental knowledge about
God but we actually desire that by the reason of this teaching we shall all have personal and
practical experience with God. Hence, we never meant this teaching to make us “professors”
of theology but “possessors” of Godly character.
Actually, knowing the Lord in this context is to be hearing, seeing and experiencing God
personally, practically,directly discerning and recognizing His character with the mind of
patterning your life after Him. 1 John 1:1-5, Gen32:22-32, Hosea 6:6 (LB).
“And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge
and understanding- Jer 3:15
A. HOW SHUOLD WE KNOW THE LORD?
1. As the Lord that exercise loving-kindness Eph 3:17-19(NLT), Rom 5:5,1
John4:8,John3:16
2. As the lord that esteem righteousness;Psalm 145:17,Psalm 11:7,Psalm 85:10, Prov 15:9
3. As the lord that execute judgement Psalm 9:16,Ecc 11:9,Isaiah 30:18,Rev 22:11-12
A. WHY MUST WE KNOW THE LORD?
1. To know what He can and cannot do- Titus 1:2, Num 23:19, Prov. 8:8, Psalm 119:159-
160, Jer9:24
2. To know that there is nothing too hard for Hm to do – Jer 32:27, 17, Luke 1:37, Mark
10:27, 2 Chro 26:5.
3. To know His mightiness and wisdom – Job 36:5, Job 37:23;42:1-6
4. To learn how to obey Him – Jer 7:21-23, Amos 5:21-23(LB), 1 Sam 15:22, Ish 1:19.
5. To reccognise how deepHis love is –Eph 3:17-19(NLT), John 3:16, John 15:13-15, Rom
5:8; 3:35, 1 John 4:8-11,16
6. To teach us how to fear Him Job 37:5, 24, Deut. 31:12-13.
B. FIRST STEP TO KNOWING THE LORD
1. Determined purpose: Phillipians 3:10 (Amplified Version) ( for my purpose is) that I
may know Him ( that I may progressively become more deeply, and intimately acquainted
with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His person more
strongly and more clearly), and that I may in that same way come to know the power
outflowing from His sufferings as to be continually transformed (in Spirit into His likeness
even) to His death, ( in hope)...
Every great achievement starts with a determined purpose or better still a purposeful heart.
While others are busying investing their time in things that does not matter, a man who has
chosen to know God will be investing in things that could enhance his knowledge of the
Lord. Jer.9:23-24,Luke 10:38-42.
 Things To Note
1. The issue of knowing God takes a personnal responaibilty- “That I may know Him...”
2. “Progressively” there means continuos growth – 1 Pet 2:2-3,Act17:28.
3. “Deeply” there means stability – Isaiah 37:31, Col 2:7(NLT)
4. “Intimately acquinted” there means friendship ( Acquintance means personal
knowledge)- Prov 18:24,John 15:13-15, Moses –Exo 33:11, Abraham- James 2:23

CONCLUSION
Every other thing can be taken away from us but the knowledge of God we have will keep us
going when the going is tough. Luke 10:42.
