Course Description:
This course will prepare students to learn basic sign vocabulary in areas of Personal
and Family Life, School Life, Social Life, Community Life, develop confidence with
using signs in conversation, and Deaf culture. Learning will occur in group activities;
individual assignments and class lectures. Videos related to basic ASL vocabulary
will be required during this course.

Course Student Learning Outcomes:


Students will demonstrate their fluency by signing basic ASL vocabulary by end-
of-year, as well as demonstrating their confidence while using ASL features and
vocabulary.

EDUCATION BELIEVE GOALS


Materials:
Videos will be posted on YouTube as well as Google classroom. Students will be
required to watch videos, and take notes on what they observe. A three-ring
binder with 5 tab dividers, or a folder in Google drive is required to save all work.

Instructional Tools:
A laptop to make videos, edit them and post to YouTube is required. These
methods will be taught during the course.

Grading Policy/Grading Philosophy:


At W.T. Woodson High School, grades will reflect the level of mastery of essential
knowledge and skills, measured using a variety of modalities, with multiple
opportunities to demonstrate understanding.  Collaborative Teams (or teachers of
like subjects) are responsible for determining what a grade reflects. Collaborative
teams will be given the flexibility to assign different academic weights to
different learning tasks and assessments based on their unique student population
and content area.

Honor Code
WT Woodson High School strives to produce students who act, at all times, in a
