Curriculum News
 LANGUAGE ARTS: We are continuing with Unit 5, Advancements in Technology. Word Work is due this Thursday. This week’s spelling
words are vowel-r words: clerk, mother, performed, smaller, coworkers, over, simpler, and various. We are will be working on mini-
lessons focused on figurative language. This week we will work with idioms and hyperbole. We will also be writing color poetry that
coincides with our color collage art projects. Finally, we will begin reading one of our favorite Valentine’s Day themed books, Everyone
Loves You, Mr. Hatch, as we explore and analyze character traits of the protagonist, Mr. Hatch and as we search for examples of acts of
kindness throughout the text.
 MATH: There will be a test on Module 3 Lessons 8-15 Wednesday. Students should review the Exit Ticket packet on Tuesday to prepare
for the test. We will also work on lessons 17 and 18 focusing on multiplication and division patters using a multiplication table.
 SOCIAL STUDIES: Starting within the next two weeks, we will be embarking on a social studies/language arts informative writing project as
each student is assigned a U.S. President to research and write an informative paper about. More information to follow. The project will
include an in-class art component as students sketch portraits of their assigned presidents. If you’d like to spark your child’s interest in
our upcoming, in-class project, we encourage you to guide your child in some fun, at-home learning about the most important job in our
nation—or on the planet Earth—that of the POTUS.
 ART: This week we will make color collages—students will choose to make their collages from either a warm or cool color palette. Thanks
to those families that sent in magazines for our project.
 ART DOCENTS: Thank you to the parent volunteers, Mrs. Woolf and Mrs. Law, who are helping with our upcoming art docents program.
We will begin next week with our first lesson, and they will continue through much of the school year with an every-other-Friday
schedule.
