EARLY INITIATION OF BREASTFEEDING TO INCREASE LEVELS OF
PRONE HORMONE AND MILK RELEASE AT POSTPARTUM LEVELS

INTRODUCTION
Early Initiation Of Breastfeeding (EIB) is an effort to provide colostrum
which is the best food with perfect nutrition and contains 10-17 times more immune
substances than mature milk (Roesli U, 2008). Giving formula milk is very
detrimental to the baby because it can cause allergic reactions or infectious diseases
such as diarrhea which can increase morbidity and infant mortality (Ministry of
Health, 2013). On the contrary, according to Newton (2012), breastmilk removal is an
important factor in the continued production of breastmilk, there are chemicals in
breastmilk that are designed to stop the production of breastmilk if not used, if
breastmilk that has been produced is not sucked or removed from the breast for a long
time, these chemicals (inhibitors) or autocrine inhibitors will stop the cells making
milk producing milk.
Mothers who rarely or do not breastfeed their babies will cause the prolactin
reflex to cease so that ASI secretion will also cease, alveoli will decay then as
menstrual cycles the alveoli will be reshaped, this mechanism prevents fullness of the
breast that is needed when the baby stops breastfeeding or does not suckle at all.
Mothers who often breastfeed their babies will double milk production (Yuliarti,
2010). In women the prolactin hormone works more dominant after giving birth, with
the breastfeeding activity of this baby the prolactin hormone will come to work
perfectly (Maryunani, 2012).
The results of a study in Boston conducted by Powe et al. (2011) on the effect
of prolactin, mothers who lack prolactin and lactation insufficiency given r-hPRL
(Recombinant Human Prolactin) therapy found an increase in the volume of breast
milk and a change in the composition of breast milk and increased antimicrobially
active oligosaccharide concentrations
The role of the prolactin hormone is very important in the production of breast
milk and lactation while the nipple suction at the fifth step of the breast crawl EIB is
believed to stimulate the production of the hormone prolactin, therefore researchers
want to find out whether there is an effect of EIB on prolactin hormone levels and
third day milk production between mothers who carry out and not carry out Early
Initiation Of Breastfeeding.
