“Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but
learning another way to think about things.” – Flora Lewis

Good morning teachers, students and the general public; my name is Ariadna Haydar Chams
and today I will talk about: how can learning other languages help us to be better person?

First, for answer this question you need to know that there are many reasons because of
learning another language, can be good or beneficial for you, for example:

1. Helps your memory and delay the sickness of Alzheimer’s and dementia:
Studies show that bilingual people have better cognitive functioning than those who only speak
one language. This is like a ‘brain exercises’ you can do to strengthen your brain.
2. Improves your relationships:
Learning languages enables you to exchange values and ideas between cultures. This improves
your ability to understand other people and situations.
3. Makes traveling more fulfilling:
Helps you better understand, communicate and to meet more people around you, makes the
trip much more enjoyable experience.
4. Makes you smarter:
When the brain adapts to dealing with two or more languages, helps you to learn other
subjects, increases the person’s executive control of their brain and gets a better mental
flexibility, superior ability to focus and solve problems.
5. Helps you professionally:
The ability to speak another language, is a really good skill to have on your resume, no matter
what company you work in.

I think that´s true, you can be a better person speaking another language, analyzing all the
benefits, that there aren´t disadvantages and there are few impediments to learn another
language, like you don’t have time, it isn´t on your purposes or you don’t have enough money
to pay for it.

If you have the time and the determination, you must do it; whether for pleasure, travel, work
or relationships, there isn’t an area of life that we could say learning another language wouldn’t
benefit.

So, I want to invite you to learn and speak another language to be a better person, because
if you want something sooner or later and with effort you will get it.

Thanks
