1 GENERAL
1.1 INTRODUCTION AND SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to define the procedures which must be followed for installing
and configuring Marconi Communications’s EM-OS Release 5.0 application. This document
assumes that a suitable HP-UX operating system and ObjectStore Database Server software (if
applicable) has previously been installed on the workstation (see ref. 0.5.3 for details on how to
do this). Any differences or additional installation or configuration information for any specific
EM-OS 5.0 builds will be given on release notes.

1.2 OPTIONS
There are three actions identified in this document:-

1. Install EM-OS application via tape.

2. Configure EM-OS Comms components.

3. Setup the EM-OS application.

All actions should be carried out with the following constraints:-

a. The procedure to install and configure a Central Data SCSI Comms Server, LAN 9000
card(s), 100VG AnyLAN card(s) or a Digital I/O Card should only be carried out if the
customer has purchased the relevant cards and/or hardware.

b. Serial data handoff should only be enabled if the customer has purchased a license to use
it.

c. Specific network element access licenses should only be enabled if the customer has
purchased a license to use them.

d. Access to specific Comms protocols should only be enabled if the customer has, or
intends to purchase relevant hardware.

e. Remote Windowing should only be enabled if the customer has purchased a license to
use it.

Note: The procedures should be carried out by an engineer with a good understanding of
HP-UX system administration and experience of the EM-OS application. Where experience is
limited it is strongly recommended that relevant training is undertaken. This can be in the
form of official HP training courses or Marconi Communications practical classroom sessions.

1.7 FALLBACK PROCEDURES

If a problem occurs with the loading or operation of the EM-OS application software, access the
UNIX window on the workstation and repeat the install procedure from Section 2.

Note: When editing files using the ‘vi’ editor great care should be taken as it is very easy to
corrupt files. It operates in two modes ‘command mode’ and ‘text entry mode’. When in text
entry mode i.e. any characters typed in are echoed on the screen, pressing the [ESC] key will
return to command mode. To leave the editor without saving any changes, return to command
mode and enter “:q!”. The command ‘:q!’ should be echoed at the bottom left of the screen.
Press [Return] to confirm this command. Always make sure the caps lock is off before starting
‘vi’.

1.8 SUPPORT GROUP CONTACT

1.10 EMC CONFORMITY

1.10.1 Hardware Installations

All newly installed equipment’s must be CE marked - either on the equipment, on the packaging
or in the user documentation. Care must be taken to ensure that the CE mark is not discarded
with the packaging.

If a Customer requests a copy of the associated EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) DoC

(Declaration of Conformity) this should be obtained from the appropriate Business Unit or
Product Division.

Refer to the equipment list for the project and ensure that all the correct items, including cables
are available before commencing assembly. If all the equipment is not present, or does not
match the equipment list, the relevant project manager should be informed immediately so steps
can be taken to track down or replace the missing items.
1.10.2 Hardware Upgrades

To meet Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) all hardware upgrades must be carried out
following the equipment manufacturer’s instructions.

4.2 ENABLE/DISABLE SERIAL DATA HANDOFF

Serial data handoff should only be enabled if the customer has purchased a license to use
it.

The serial data handoff program works in conjunction with the EM-OS event handler to direct a
copy of the EM-OS events to the serial port. This feature is disabled by default. To enable this
feature carry out the following steps:-

a. Change directory to ‘/emos/hpux/release’, by typing:-

“cd /emos/hpux/release”[Return]

b. Edit the ‘.emosrc’ file, by typing:-

“vi .emosrc”[Return]

c. Using the [cursor] keys, move to the section of the file containing the following:-

‘async-event-handler:critical
start-up = AEHR (Note: This line will read ‘start-up = AEHR -e’ where the
start-up-action = wait External Link Interface has not been disabled - see below)
init-timeout = 600’

Note: If the External Link Interface has not been disabled, a ‘-e’ parameter will have been
added automatically to the ‘start-up = AEHR’ line. If Serial events are required to be
forwarded via the ELI (i.e. where the EM-OS is being managed by SMN-OS via an NE Server)
this ‘-e’ parameter should not be deleted and the following parameters should be added after
the ‘-e’ parameter.

d. To enable Serial Data Handoff, the following arguments should be added after the word
‘AEHR’ (or ‘AEHR -e’ where the ELI has not been disabled :-

-s Enable forwarding of status events.

(Serial Data Handoff automatically enabled).

-t xx Override default watch-dog time-out period (in seconds)

Default is 60 seconds
(Serial Data Handoff automatically enabled).

FOR EXAMPLE

To enable Serial Data Handoff and set the time-out to 120 seconds the following changes
should be made:-

i. Using the [cursor] keys, move the cursor onto the letter ‘R’ of ‘AEHR’ or the
‘e’ of the ‘-e’ parameter where the ELI has not been disabled.

ii. Type the following to amend the file:-

Page 48 Copyright - Refer to Title Page 1QDE 60955 AAK-YYA
Issue 5

[a][spacebar]”-st”[spacebar]”120”[ESC]

iii. The file should now read:-

‘async-event-handler:critical
start-up = AEHR -st 120 (Note: This line should now read ‘start-up =
start-up-action = wait AEHR -e -st 120’ where the External Link
init-timeout = 600’ Interface has not been disabled)

iv. Exit the file by typing “:wq!”[Return].

Unless specified by the Network Planner, the EHSSerialPort.cfg file should be left
at default settings, the following is for example purposes only.

To enable the CTS hardware flow control and DSR line detection features carry out the
following steps:-

i. Edit the file ‘/emos/hpux/release/EHSSerialPort.cfg’ by typing:-

“vi /emos/hpux/release/EHSSerialPort.cfg”[Return]

ii. Move the cursor to the line containing the token ‘DSR_DETECTION’ and
remove the comment (‘#’) character from the beginning of the line.

iii. Move the cursor to the line containing the token ‘RTS_CTS’ and remove the
comment (‘#’) character from the beginning of the line.

iv. Save the file and exit by typing:- “:wq!”[Return]

If it is later required to disable the CTS hardware flow control feature edit the
‘EHSSerialPort.cfg’ file, re-insert the comment (‘#’) character at the beginning of the
line containing the token ‘RTS_CTS’ then save and exit the file.

Note: Any combination of CTS hardware flow control and DSR line detection features
can be enabled/disabled.

An example of the EHSSerialPort.cfg file is shown in Appendix A.

4.3 ENABLE/DISABLE REMOTE WINDOWING

Remote Windowing should only be enabled if the customer has purchased a license to use
it.

No detailed configuration instructions are needed for enabling or disabling remote windowing,
since most of the software is third-party and hence has its own instructions. However, the
following software items are needed (refer to 0.5.2 and 0.5.7 References for exact requirements
and additional configuration instructions):-

a. UNIX Link (for the HP included in the EM-OS Application)

b. FTP TCP issue 3.1 bundled with CoSession PC2X issue 6.2N (for the PC)

b. Install PC-MOS (if required).

c. Configure UNIX Link as follows:-

Note: A license must first have been obtained from Unipress Software.

i. Enter:- “cd /usr/cspc2x”[Return]

ii. Enter:- “cspc2x.customer_info”[Return]

This will output a character string which will be requested by Unipress Software
when a license is requested for the workstation. Make a record of this character
string for reference.

ii. Enter:- “cspc2x.add_license”[Return]

Note: It will now be necessary to enter the license string obtained previously from
Unipress Software.

d. Test the link to see if a PC window can be displayed on the HP by running the UNIX link
software manually by the following command:-

“/usr/cspc2x/cspc2x”[Return]

e. Enable the External Managed Network license using the setup program described in
Section 4.1 and reboot the workstation.

f. The remote windowing feature on the EM-OS can now be used.

5 STARTING THE APPLICATION

At this stage any further procedures contained on the specific release note(s) should be applied.
If the OMS IPC Trader is running on one machine in a network of EM-OS workstations, then
the workstation on which the OMS IPC Trader is to run should be started up first. To start the
EM-OS application carry out the following steps:-

a. If ObjectStore has been installed then the following commands can be skipped - carry
on to paragraph ‘b’. If ObjectStore has not been installed and configured then carry out
the following commands :-

“cdemos”[Return]

“mv os_persist_wr os_persist_wr.save”[Return]

b. Enter the following from the command line:-

“cd /emos/hpux/setup”[Return]

“make_persist_links.cmd”[Return]

c. Edit the file ‘/etc/inittab’ to restore the automatic boot up feature, by typing:-

“vi /etc/inittab”[Return]

d. On the first line change the number 2 to a 5.

e. Save the file and exit.

f. If an internal tape drive has been utilised or the tape drive has been supplied with the
workstation, reboot the workstation at this point by typing “/etc/reboot”[Return].

If the external DAT tape drive has been connected to carry out this procedure and is
required to be removed, the workstation should be shutdown by typing:

“/etc/reboot -h”[Return]

The workstation will display the message ‘Halted, you may now cycle power’. At this
point, power down the workstation and disconnect the tape drive, then power the
workstation back up.

g. When the ‘EM-OS Backup/Restore’ window is displayed, select the appropriate

options to start-up the EM-OS applications.

h. The ‘EM-OS Welcome Screen’ will be displayed.

i. The first time the EM-OS is run, only the root user can login using the root account.
Therefore, at the EM-OS login screen enter “root” for the username and the relevant
password.

#SICANON set canonical mode

# In canonical mode input processing, terminal input is processed in
# units of lines, where a line is delimited by a new-line (NL)
# character, an end-of-file (EOF) character, or an end-of-line character
# (EOL). See Special Characters for more information on NL, EOF, and
# EOL. This means that a read request does not return until an entire
# line has been typed or a signal has been received. Also, no matter
# how many characters are requested in the read call, at most one line
# will be returned. It is not, however, necessary to read a whole line
# at once; any number of characters can be requested in a read, even
# one, without losing information.
