Liberal Political Theory

The liberal view of politics may be summed up as under:-

1. It is natural for an individual to have his or her own interests. Further, the individuals must
seek ways and means to attain and maximize those interests.
2. It is natural that the interests of individuals or groups should clash among themselves.
3. It is natural for individuals or groups to compete among themselves for obtaining the
maximum satisfaction of their needs.
4. Politics come to resolve and conciliate the conflicting interest of the individuals or groups.
5. Groups (social, economic, political etc.) when weak are managed by politics, but when grow
strong and powerful manage politics, and in the process, the role of politics as an umpire
diminishes.
