CIRCULAR SLAB DESIGN METHOD BY SEFI

1. Procedure of taking slab as two way suggested by Er Suresh Sharma ji is

quick and practical, though conservative. Even taking the average of
inscribed and circumscribed squares as the basis of two way dimensions
may provide safe results within close accuracy.
The side of average square= (R+0.707R)/2= 0.86 R say 0.90R

However for exact formulas please take refuge in the famous book
by ROARK and Young on 'Formulas for stress and strains

2. Treat each quadrant of the circle as two way slab with each span equal to radius of the
circular slab. In order to economise the design, if the slab is of large size, the spacing of
reinforcement may be resonably increased as you move closer to the circumference
subject to the condition that minimum reinforcement is available at the cross section. In
case of water tank it would be necessary for you to provide both top and bottom
reinforcement in slab retaining water.
