IN FREEZING ENVIRONMENTS, FLUID REMAINING IN THE DISCHARGE LINE COULD FREEZE AND PREVENT DISCHARGE FROM THE VALVE. ‘THUS THE VALVE COULD OPEN AND FLOW DOWNSTREAM OF THE VALVE WOULD BE BLOCKED. THIS WOULD PRESENT A SERIOUS SITUATION WHICH COULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE VALVE, PIPING, AND THE PUMP. WARNING: GOOD PRACTICE IN DESIGNING ADJACENT PIPING FOR A RELIEF VALVE INSTALLATION. ‘ALSO DICTATES THAT ALL PIPING BE PROPERLY BRACED, ANCHORED, AND SUPPORTED TO. PREVENT UNNECESSARILY HIGH STRESSES (DUE TO THRUST LOADS AT THE TIME OF DISCHARGE) FROM DAMAGING THE VALVE OR ANY ADJACENT CONNECTORS. AVOID MOUNING THE VALVE ON A TALL RISER UNLESS THE RISER IS WELL, RACED, ANCHORED, AND. ‘SUPPORTED.
