MATERIALS AND METHODS

An iron stand was first collected and used as the stand for the setup. The universal clamp was clamped to
the iron stand and used as a handle for the photogate head. A C-clamp was used to secure the iron
stand. After the setup, the photogate head was connected to the digital adapter, and the digital adapter
was connected to the GLX Xplorer device. The photogate head was double checked to ensure that the
sensor was working. The picket fence was used as the object to measure the velocity and time of fall of a
falling object. 10 trials were performed with different results due to some errors. The following properties
with their units recorded in the experiment are shown in table 1.

Property Units

Velocity (v) m/s

Position (y) m

Experimental Value of g m / 𝑠2

After 10 trials, the average of each property was calculated.

The formulas below were used to calculate the corresponding properties:

| 𝑻𝑽−𝑬𝑽|
Percent error = 𝒙 𝟏𝟎𝟎
𝑻𝑽

𝒗𝟐
Experimental value of g =
𝟐𝒚

The data was then recorded.
