equipped desirable, unique, focused,
Stressed, scared, pressured, fear, timid, defenceless, disturbed
compassionate, oblivious.

TASK: Look at the following image. Analyse the Mise en Scene and describe
why the shot has been set up as it has. Remember to consider all five
elements.
We can clearly see that the man in red(Thor) is kneeling or worshiping the man standing up who
looks dominant and a higher rank/authority to the man kneeling before him. Another reason is that
they have made the man in red lower in the shot and the man in the throne is at the top of the stairs
to his throne to be appreciated by all his guards or servants as shown at the left and right of the
middle of the stairs. Finally the guards are higher than the man in red which may give us a hint of
some sort of enemy or punishment. It is clearly shown that the man standing up by the throne is
extremely wealthy and has a lot of power as his whole palace or kingdom is gold and a chrome.

The lighting shows a lot of contrast between the two character as the man in the throne is almost
shining in the gold and the man in red is kneeling at the bottom and is sort of forgotten and
irrelevant with very little light. The fact that the man with the red cape is kneeling and we don’t
know why, gives it a sense of enigma and may make the audience question why is he here and what
sort of personality he has. Another reason for the enigma towards the man in the red cape is that
we cannot see his face so we do not know what he is feeling, but by his body language he is clearly
powerless.
