general idea on their own. Then, I will play the 5-minute-long lesson video, while pausing whenever the
characters introduce new words such as shades, tints, pastel, etc.
Once the video is over, I will set them free to BrainPOP and ask they complete a couple of the quizzes from
the video. After about 30 minutes of them playing games and doing simulations, I will have them come back
to their table group and complete a project that requires them to paint in a poster. Each section on the poster
will require a secondary color, so with their new skills on mixing colors, they will be able to complete the task
as a group while also discussing before mixing/painting so that any misinformation is addressed and
corrected. Finally, I will display these posters in the hall so the students can review and reflect on the lessons
they leaned about colors in visual arts. I predict the entire lesson to take an hour to an hour and 15 minutes.
Reflective Practice:
Having students utilize technology and use their different senses to access
information helps learning because it allows students to make connections within, as well as
between, concepts. The BrainPOP videos and images of colors and the concepts of colors such as mixing,
primary colors, shades, tints, pastels, etc. that is crucial to educate the students that maybe more on the
artistic side and possibly spark that interest or talent they have yet to discover. To further the lesson they may
get more into painting or different mediums of art.
