The shocking fact about

the 2020 NFL odds for
the MVP award

Racial diversity is a big topic in the NFl. I

actually thought the bit about it by Steve

Harvey at the NFL Honors was very funny.

Black coaches are as hard to find as white

cornerbacks, but looking at the MVP odds for

the 2020 season that just came out I noticed

something very interesting.

Here is the list:

Mahomes +600

Jackson +700

Wilson +900

Watson +1200
Watson +1200

Wentz +1600

Prescott/Murray +2000

Besides the fact that all seven Quarterbacks

are mobile, different degrees of mobility

nevertheless they are all mobile, there is the

fact that five of the top seven are black

Quarterbacks. Could you imagine that a

decade ago. I repeat five of the seven top

candidates for the regular season MVP award

according to Vegas are black Quarterbacks.

There is a movement going on here.

Take a look at the preseason odds for the

2010 regular season MVP award to provide

some context:

Peyton Manning +350

Drew Brees +400

Aaron Rodgers +700

Chris Johnson +750

Tom Brady +800 (winner)

Brett Favre +1000

Phillip Rivers +1000

Tony Romo +1200

No black Quarterbacks and only Aaron

Rodgers and Brett Favre have some mobility,

just not at the level of the guys today, plus

Favre in 2010 wasn't extending plays as he

once did. We all hear about the evolution of

the position in the NFL, but looking at this

comparison, it really hits you how much it all

has changed.
has changed.

The 2020 MVP odds only includes the upper

echelon of black Quarterbacks, we also have

Jameis Winston, Cam Newton, Dwayne

Haskins and Jacoby Brisset all starting for

their franchises. This fact should really be

celebrated by the black community and

everyone who works towards racial equality

in the NFL and in life in general.

Sometimes changes happen right before our

eyes and it takes us a while to really notice,

it's about time we do. Let's celebrate the

breakthrough of racilal equality at the

game's most important position.
