On the 24th day of the month of January,
the section Yuchengco of Las Pinas National
High School – Senior High held the survival
swimming lesson at JRK resort that was
supervise by the P.E teacher Mr. Jovit
Jeniebre. The students arrive at the JRK resort
before 7:30 AM except 1 student. At exactly
7:30 AM everyone proceeded to prayer that
lead by the student named Duman-ag, after the
prayer we had picture taking for documentation
purposes. At 8:15 AM Mr. Jovit Jeniebre allow
us to change to our swimming attire before proceeding to warm up to prevent
numbness and muscles cramps. We do thirty counts of jumping jacks and different
kinds of stretching together with the partner that chosen for us by Mr. Jovit.
Everyone enjoyed the exercise. The next activity that we had was to walk below
the water without using our hands. Everyone had an easy time finishing this activity
except 1 student because she is too short that the water is already above her nose.
After everyone finished walking
below the water Mr. Jovit teaches
everyone on what is the proper way
in jumping in and jumping out in the
pool. Your two hands should be
placed on the right side of the gutter
when you are jumping in. Everyone
are able to do it properly so we
proceed to the next activity Mr. Jovit
prepared for us which is breathing
exercise. The breathing exercise
consist of two parts, the first part is
inhaling air when you are above the water and the second part is exhaling with
nose under the water. This breathing exercise was also known as bubbles because
you are making bubbles when you exhale air underwater. Some students are
having hard time in doing bubbles because of fear of drowning but eventually
everyone did it after a few minutes of practice. Exactly 8:45 AM we proceed to the
next activity where we practice the different types of floating which are the
mushroom float where your hands will be put in your knees and fold your body like
a snail, back float were your back is facing the surface of the water and lastly the
prone position where you are facing the water. Some students are having a hard
time performing the various kind of floats. At exactly 9:30 AM, Mr. Jovit gave us 30
minutes break where we can practice by ourselves or rest our body so that our
body will stay hydrated. After the 30 minutes break we proceeded to the next
activity where Mr. Jovit teaches us the flutter kick where you need to move your
legs up and down while maintaining its straightness and pull recover that helps
when you are lacking air. Everyone was divided
into group that contains 3 people to practice the
different positions. Some students struggle to
do the different swimming positions and
unfortunately, I am one of those students
because I fear that I might drown and also
because of the coldness of the water I can’t
properly move my body. It took almost 2 hours
practice the different kinds of swimming
position. After practicing the different kinds of
swimming position Mr. Jovit let us to have our
lunchtime. Our section agreed to have a boodle
fight and each group was assigned to bring
different kinds of food that they want. They
brought hotdogs, fried eggplant, shrimp paste,
shanghai and mussels. Everyone brought their
own rice where we put them together in the
‘dahon ng saging’. Before we eat we did a prayer that was led by Mr. Jovit after
that the eating commence. It is very fun and enjoyable because sharing delicious
foods with I shared foods with my classmates and friends, we also make jokes that
added to the fun. After eating, everyone has their free time. Some begain singing
in the karaoke, while others are busing resting and taking pictures. After the chilling
time, Mr. Jovit gathered everyone to start practicing the different swimming
position. The next lesson was the back stroke where executed on the back and
usually consisting of alternating circular arm pulls and a flutter, this time I was not
able to participate because I am struggling to do it so Mr. jovit let me practice to
other pool to better familiarize myself on backstroke. I practice again and again.
After practicing for almost an hour, we proceeded to the performance test where
we were called alphabetically. At the first performance test, I was’nt able to perform
well and I got an score of 80 but I did not feel down because I did my best. Some
of my classmate do well while others are not. At the second performance test I did
not participate because I still can’t do it. Finishing the swimming lesson, we all took
bath and prepared to go home. Even though I didn’t perform well I am still proud
of myself because I finished the swimming lesson. Before everyone go home we
enjoyed every little time we got.
