Journal Title The Social Determinants of Health: Why Should We Care?

Preda, A., & Voigt, K. (2015). The Social Determinants of Health: Why Should We

Care? The American Journal of Bioethics, 15(3), 25–36.

doi:10.1080/15265161.2014.998374. In this article, Preda, A., & Voigt, K. examined the

framework for thinking about fairness in health that informs many of the high-level reports.

The author used data gained through questions the framework defined by the assumptions

of "social determinants of health"(SDH) on health and health inequalities by focusing on

two issues. The research focused on several high-profile publications have issued policy

recommendations to reduce health inequalities based on a specific interpretation of this

empirical research as well as a set of normative assumptions. The article is useful to my

research topic, health care policy issue, as Preda said these normative assumptions need

to be clarified and supported with clearer arguments. The main limitations of this article

clarify many of the conclusions drawn by proponents of the HESC model, accepting these

conclusions without a solid philosophical argument may lead to unclear and possibly even

contradictory prescriptions. Thus, Preda indicated that role of social factors in creating

health inequalities is important and should not be overlooked. This article will provide the

special views about health care policy issue in different factors shape health outcomes, so

it will be useful part for the research on health care policy issue.
