13 TRIBES OF MORO HOMELAND (MINSUPALA)

Moro people, or Bangsamoro are the several Muslim peoples of Mindanao,

Palawan, the Sulu Archipelago (MINSUPALA), and other southern islands of the
Philippines. Constituting the indigenous ethnic Muslim religion of the Philippine
population, they can be classified linguistically into 13 Tribal groups: the
Maguindanao of North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Maguindanao provinces;
the Maranao of Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur provinces;the Ilanon, or iranun
of southern Mindanao; the Sangil of Davao and Calagan of southern Mindanao;
the Tausug, mostly of Jolo Island; the Sama, mostly in the Sulu Archipelago; the
Bajau, mostly in the Sulu Archipelago; the Yakan of basilan Island; the Kolibugan
of Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga del Norte, and southern Palawan, the
Banguingui of Zamboanga del Sur province; the Jama-mapun and Melbog of
southern Palawan.

The term "moro" came into use during the colonial period, when the Spaniards
used the term Moros (Moors) when they see the muslim ethnic indigenous in the
islands of Panay, Cebu and Manila, to describe Muslim natives they also saw just
50 years earlier during their Reconquista of Andalus in Southern Spain.

Each Moro group have a subgroup according to their cultures, traditions,

identities, dialects, and locations, but they have a solidarity and unity into self-
determination as Bangsamoro People and to the religion of Islam.
