Women in Music

Introduction

Using the term project topic picker, the idea that caught most of my attention was

“women in music”. Our society is a male dominant society. The music industry is full of famous

male artists, composers, and producers. However, in a field full of male dominance, many great

female names have made their mark. The reason for choosing this topic is to acknowledge and

present a tribute to the women of the music industry who worked hard to make their way up to

the height of popularity and have yet stayed humble. Among the great names of female

composers and singers such as Amy Beach, Carole King, Dolly Parton, Jennifer Higdon, and

many more, I have selected Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton has been recognized as a phenomenal country musician. Her career spread

over a span of five decades. Parton has been redefining her music as per the need for time and

therefore, has been remained relevant to the industry and era. By consolidating the melodic and

melodious styling of disco and other well-known music classes into her tunes, Parton moved past

music's shading line to build her prevalence as a successful musician and artist. Through the

essay, I will explore the life of Dolly Parton as a musician, hardships faced by her to make a

career.

I will access the ULV Wilson Library as a primary source to gain information on the

music industry and the role of women, in particular, Dolly Parton. As a secondary source,

research articles on the life of Dolly Parton will be utilized to draft as much credible and relevant

information as possible.
