PRACTICE IN LABORATORY NUMBER 1_UNIT 2

¨ APPLICATION EXAMPLE ¨

Figure 1 shows a half-wave rectifier that you can build on the lab bench or on a computer screen with
Multisim. An oscilloscope is across the 1 kΩ. Set the oscilloscope’s vertical input coupling switch or
setting to dc. This will show us the half-wave load voltage. Also, a multimeter is across the 1 kΩ to read
the dc load voltage. Calculate the theoretical values of peak load voltage and the dc load voltage. Then,
compare these values to the readings on the oscilloscope and the multimeter.

1
PRACTICE PROBLEM
Using Fig. 1, change the ac source voltage to 15 V. Calculate the second approximation dc load voltage
Vdc.

INDICATIONS
THE ACTIVITIE MUST BE PERFORM IN PAIRS BUT THE REPORT MUST BE INDIVIDUAL:

1. ADJUST THE VOLTAGE SOURCE, THE OSCILOSCOPE AND THE SIGNAL GENERATE
AT THE VALUES GIVEN IN THE APLICATION EXAMPLE.

2. ASSEMBLE THE CIRCUIT GIVEN IN THE FIGURE 1.

3. CALCULATE THE THEORETICAL VALUES OF PEAK LOAD VOLTAGE AND THE DC

LOAD VOLTAGE.

4. THEN, COMPARE THESE VALUES TO THE READINGS ON THE OSCILLOSCOPE AND

THE MULTIMETER.

5. FINALLY PERFORM THE PRACTICE PROBLEM AND COMPARE THESE VALUES TO

THE READINGS ON THE OSCILLOSCOPE AND THE MULTIMETER.
