About IIM Indore

Established in 1996, Indian Institute of Management Indore is the sixth in the prestigious IIM family
of management schools. The institute was chosen to be set up in Indore to give an impetus to
management education in central India and has ever since been acting as the pioneer in the
field of management, interfacing with the industry, government sectors and PSUs.
The essence of management, IIM I believes, lies in managing one’s own ambitions and forging
ahead consciously. “A strong theoretical foundation is the basis of good corporate practice”
this, coupled with a grounding in management as it is practiced, is the underlying theme of the
flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP). Spanning two years the programme is benchmarked
against similar programmes of the best business schools in the world. Experiential learning, IT
orientation, and social sensitivity are some of the unique features of the programme. A range
of courses in personality development, ethics, corporate governance, rural development and
exposure to realities of social life in India enable the student to develop abilities and talent to
shoulder challenging management positions in a varied socio-cultural and economic setting.
IIM Indore’s achievements in such a short span of time can be attributed to its innovative spirit, its
will to excel, and, to a great extent, to the relationship it has developed with the Indore community.

Exchange Program
Curriculum
Program at IIM Indore
The Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management at IIM Indore is a two-year, full-time,
residential programme. It is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities and is considered
equivalent to the M.B.A. Degree. The PGP is spread over two years, each year consisting of three
terms. In between the first and second years, the participant spends eight weeks on a summer
project in a business organization. The academic year begins in June/July and ends in March/
April of the following year.
The PGP of IIM Indore has some special features like:
„„ Experiential Learning
„„ International Focus
„„ Information Technology Orientation
„„ Social Sensitivity
In the second year electives give participants a deeper understanding of different functional
areas and enable them to specialize in areas of their choice. The participants are encouraged
to select courses in specific domains such as Analytics, Ecom./IT/ITES, BFS, FMCG, Insurance and
Infrastructure. The emphasis is on the application of knowledge gained, in the form of projects,
group exercises and case discussions. Guest lectures and workshops further enrich their learning.

Rural Immersion
At IIM Indore, there is an overwhelming realization of the important role that rural India will play
in the overall development of this nation. In this spirit, IIM Indore organizes an annual Rural
Immersion Program for its students in the first year of the PGP program. The purpose of this
program is to familiarize students with the ground realities of various Districts in Madhya Pradesh.
The entire effort works wonderfully at sensitizing the participants towards the needs and problems
of the village communities, and how the government machinery in addition to non-government
organizations is working towards the betterment of the people in these districts. The participants
are interfaced with key government officials like, District Collector, Magistrate etc. to have
first-hand knowledge of functioning and ground level implementation of various government
policies. This exposes them to the lifestyle of the rural population and sensitizes them to the need
of inclusive growth.

The Himalayan Outbound Programme

Taking cognizance of the changing scenario, IIM Indore has incorporated a unique initiative into
the curriculum – a mandatory Himalayan Outbound Programme for the second year students of
its PGP. The students spend a week in the Himalayas at altitudes ranging from 7000 feet to 12000
feet as a part of this programme. They experience an admixture of tasks for execution and fun
activities, designed to take them out of their comfort zone but also giving space for reflection.
The range of activities spans trekking and adventure sports such as rappelling and river rafting.
In the face of extreme challenges, team-building happens naturally. Students bond with one
another and the accompanying faculty in a natural environment, albeit a hitherto alien setting
for learning.

PGP Dubai Chair’s Message
The current bilateral trade volume indicates that this is exciting time in the
history of UAE-India economic relations. UAE is one of the most important
trading partner for India. Many Indian as well as multinational companies
are establishing their regional offices in UAE and other GCC countries.
PGP at Ras Al Khaimah, UAE has been started by IIM Indore in 2011
to cater to the growing needs of these emerging markets. The broad
objective of the course is to provide high quality management education
to prepare global leaders for managing businesses in the GCC countries.
Currently, IIM Indore is conducting this programme in collaboration with
Centre of Excellence for Applied Research and Training (CERT), UAE.
The program is broadly similar to that of PGP at IIM Indore. In the first
year students are exposed to all the core courses of management. In
the second year students can choose from a wide range of electives
from Finance & Marketing areas for specialization. They can also choose
courses from Economics, Operations, Information System and Strategy
areas. In this programme a few region-specific elective courses such
as Real Estate Management, Retail Management, Islamic Banking,
Management of Oil & Gas Sector are also offered. The case –based
methodology is followed in delivering most of the courses.
We believe in the overall personality development of our participants.
They are encouraged to organise and compete in various business
and cultural events. Our students organize a plethora of activities, which
inspires one to display, nurture and develop one’s talents during the two
years of the programme.
