History of the hospital

In the twelve short years since its inception, Raghavendhar hospital has grown from a
small out-patient clinic to multi specialty tertiary care hospital with 150 beds and an
attached College of Nursing. Our chairman Dr.M.Murugan is always engaged in both
short term and long term planning to fulfill the needs and expectations of patients, their
families and referral sources.

1996-started as Raghavendra clinic

2000-Raghavendhar hospital with 10 beds
2002-Raghavendhar Hospital with 15 beds and an operation theatre
2004-Raghavendhar multi-speciality hospital with 50 beds
2006-Formation of Eve’s SEED Trust and rendering social activities
2008-Inauguration of Chithirai College of Nursing
2009-Expansion of hospital by increasing the bed strength from 50 beds to 150 beds
2010-Upgradation of secondary level hospital to tertiary care multi-speciality hospital
with the extension of modern infrastructure.

added feather to the crown of Raghavendhar speciality hospital. The hospital service is
strengthened by a paramedical team of College of Nursing. They have ongoing
orientation, education, including in-services, training, and other activities that improves
and maintains competence.

The magnificent hospital at 36-E, Kurivikaran Salai, Madurai, is located in heart of the
city and is easily accessible to all local and feeding villages in and around Madurai. It is
situated 5 km from Periyar bus stand and rail way station; 1.5 km from Anna bus
stand; 4 km from Mattuthavani main bus stand and 13 km from the Airport. The site
is present in the entry point to major towns of east and southern districts of
Madurai.

Operation theatre

The theatre complex has three in built theatres with specially trained team of staffs who
maintain the theatre with utmost perfection. Theatre complex enables to cope up all
emergency and elective surgeries without interruption. The operation theatre has
centralized oxygen supply and suction, double dome halogen light, hydraulic table with
all adjustments, perfect autoclave, hi-tech anesthesia machine, C-arm, NIBP monitor and
endoscopic equipments for all specialties. The modern surgical equipments for all
speciality surgeries are stocked in operation theatre complex.

Intensive care unit

Our critical care rooms are focused on quality, safety and service. The healing
environment eases the stress in emergencies. The unit has 25 beds including 2 designated
resuscitation suites. The cabins are designed identically with all medical equipments
located in the same places to ease functioning. Each cabin is provided with hydraulic
adjustable cots, bedside NIBP monitors, central suction and oxygen supply. Bedside
ECG, mobile x-ray unit, adjustable lamps, cup boards, trolleys and equipments for minor
surgeries facilitate the treatment. Defibrillator and ventilators for both adult and pediatric
cases aid in the management of cases with respiratory failure.

Labor suite
The patient friendly and well equipped delivery room has an en-suite shower and toilet, a
state-of-the-art hydraulic adjustable delivery bed, an arm-chair for the birth partner,
stereo and baby-care equipments. Hospital labor suite is fully equipped centralized
oxygen and suction, NIBP monitor, halogen lights and fetal monitor which assure safety
of the mother and baby.

Diagnostics services

The laboratory is equipped with hi-tech adjustable speed microcentrifuger, haemocount,

chemistry analyzer, Enzyme Linked Immuno Assay reader with efficient reporting
system. The radiological unit with high resolution and modern ultra sonogram with color
Doppler provides accurate diagnostic potency. Echo cardiogram and computerized tread
mill offers high tech assessment of cardiac status. The equipped laboratory offers
serological, biochemical, pathological and microbiological diagnostic procedures.

Emergency Services

The emergency service team with surgeons, physician specialists, anesthetists and nurses
are ready to stabilize the emergency, critical care, trauma and for all patients with known
or potential serious illness. The emergent situations such as cardiac arrest, stroke, major
trauma and other acute injuries or illnesses are tackled efficiently by the team. It has easy
access from the emergency entry. The interrelated communication system, laboratory and
blood bank services offer timely management. The enough supply of medical, surgical
and orthopedic equipments facilitates treatment in case of emergency.

General and speciality services

The number of surgeries performed in a month is numerous and various major surgeries
from all surgical specialties like gastroenterology, gynecology, orthopedics, urology,
cancer surgery, skin and soft tissues, cosmetic and head and neck surgeries are performed
with the well organized theatre list and schedule. The organized theatre schedules sustain
the increasing surgical load of the hospital.

We tackle emergency stroke and hemorrhage in the brain and spinal cord and perform
neurosurgical emergency procedures to save the life and revert the neurological functions
back by rehabilitation. A number of intracranial tumors are successfully operated.
The surgical results of spine surgery and hip and knee replacement are remarkable. A
range of facio-maxillary and ENT surgeries are performed regularly. We undertake
surgical clearance for various cancers and maintain a cancer registry in which we follow
our surgically managed cancer patients at frequent intervals.

The countless number of reconstructive surgeries, cleft lip corrections, hand surgery and
burn surgery are performed. Abdominal wall hernias and defects are reconstructed with or
with out mesh. Importance is also given to the shape and many a times liposuction is also
done along with the reconstruction to get a pleasing shape as well.

The reconstructive procedures performed in the reproductive tract like tubal

recanalisation and tuboplasty assist in fertility treatment. We realize that the relationship
with their caregivers, the efficacy of treatment and patients' satisfaction – all improve
when patients understand their problem and the plan for its management. Patients receive
information and are involved in decisions about care, treatment, and services provided.
There is always a preoperative counseling before any surgical procedure.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

We are proud of the current services we offer, particularly those for women and their
babies, including Obstetrics and Gynecology. The gynecological services offered by the
department are comprehensive and meet the needs of all problems related to women’s
health.
Gynecological surgeries are performed by experienced gynecologist and include:
hysterectomy, excision of benign and malignant tumors of the uterus and ovaries.

Specialists from other fields, such as general surgery and urology, stand ready to assist as
and when needed, for specific gynecological surgeries that require joint participation of
these specialties. In addition to conventional types of surgery, the surgeons have rich
experience in performing fine invasive procedures such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

We offer guided introductory tours for the expected mother of the labor and delivery
suites and the maternity wards. We give them labor preparation courses, natural birth

programs, postnatal neonatal care and breast feeding training programs.

The delivery room is manned by the gynecologist, medical officer and separate nursing
team. Anesthetist is available on call for painless labor which has lot of fascination. The
staff nurses are trained in a number of methods of relaxation and pain relief, such as
movement, aromatic massage, TENS, etc. Our patients are happy with a course of
painless labor assisted by an anesthetic team who offer epidural anesthesia. Women may
choose to receive an epidural immediately on request, on condition that the progress of
delivery allows it. Women can move around, without feeling pain. Mothers in the
rooming-in system receive breastfeeding counseling from an experienced team of nurses
and from breastfeeding counselors.

The operating theater dedicated to Caesarian sections (emergency and elective) and
additional neonatal intensive care beds are supportive to tackle any high risk pregnancy.
NICU is equipped with pediatric warmer with inbuilt suction and oxygen supply with
thermo controller. The alarm system of the equipment further augments the work
efficiency. The phototherapy unit, pediatric resuscitation trolleys and pediatric ventilators
support the NICU to tackle any sick babies. Above all the service by the experienced and
committed doctors and staff of NICU gives us immense support to care our babies.

We offer women master health check-ups, cancer screening, hormone replacement

therapy or non-hormonal medical therapy, nutritional programs rich in calcium,
appropriate physical activity (“bone building”) and workshops on coping with mid-life
changes and on nutritional needs of this age group.

Our basic infertility clinic offers investigating infertility, semen analysis, hormonal
assays, follicular scanning, PCT and treat the childless grieving women with ovulation
induction and intrauterine insemination. The team of doctors comprising of gynecologist,
endocrinologist, andrologist and paramedical team of staffs and counselors provide a

the vehicle. It will have uninterrupted power supply, cardiac monitors, pulse oxymeter to
check oxygen level, ventilators for use in patients with respiratory failure, defibrillator,

The Endocrinology service is provided by a dedicated and well-qualified team of

healthcare professionals comprised of consultant endocrinologist, several diabetic foot
surgeons, diabetic educators, a physiotherapist, a psychologist, podiatry assistants, a
