REFLECTION ON “LOVE IS POWER”
Love is something that can keep a person alive provided that person cherishes it (love). Love,
though invisible and therefore intangible, in my opinion, I believe that love can be made visible
and tangible in a sense that the two parties involved in love are able to show true love so that
other people who may not have known what love is all about, come to the point of realizing that
love for someone is very important.

First and foremost, I strongly liked the way the writer conveyed the information on how some
patrol police officers go about things in their places of work and how they behave when they go
to the field that is patrolling places around them basing on how they frame their duties.
According to the information provided by the writer, I realized that some police officials react in
a way that is not ethical to the communities they are meant to serve. This was because according
to the story, some of the patrol police officials acted in respectful manner when they patrolled a
certain hotel in the night. For example, according to the writer, Mfonobong, one of the police
patrol officials entered some private rooms and not only slept with prostitutes but also deprived
another man whom he found already in the room with a prostitute from enjoying his life, instead
he chased him away using his authority as a policeman (Barrett, 2013, p 76-79).

In addition, according to the writer, I realized that some police officers can act with annoyance
on citizens of a particular community or area and their primary task or obligation is to keep law
and order. This was because according to the writer, was Eghobamien Adrawus as a police
officer,” though he was off duty and under no obligation to participate, Eghobamien Adrawus
threw himself into raid” (Barrett, p 64- 65). Eghobamein used his authority as a police officer
violently on “a blubbering conductor boy” (Barrett, p 65). Acoording to the writer, I learnt that
some policemen do face challenges on the things the government offers them, for example,
Eghobamien, was complained his too-tight boots that made him develop sores on his feet
(Barrett, 2013, p 1), he further about the jail smell or stink that woke him up in the mornings
(Barrett, 2013, p 1).

Furthermore, according to the information provided by the writer, I realized that some police
men value bribery as means of survival, though they are civil servants that are being paid by the
government. This was because basing on the story, the police took advantage of a certain Toyota
Avensis’ driver who after showing a strong resistance to the patrol police officers had to give the
police officers a bundle of five-five hundred before he was let to go (Barrett, 2013, p 81-85).
Basing on that incident that happened, I strongly suggest that the policemen should show ethics
and integrity in whatever they do as they try to show love for every citizen their respective areas
of control, so that their work is seen and appreciated by everyone and also to maintain the good
reputation of their country.

More still, according to the information conveyed by the writer, I realized that though some
married people tend to develop other love relationships with other partners either at a work place
or other places that can eventually lead to marriage break ups in some families, Eghobamien did
not go ahead sleeping with prostitutes in hotels where they could go patrolling in the night with
his other colleagues. This was because according to the writer, some police officer went in for
prostitutes each time they go for a night patrol. For example, Mfonobong as a police officer
entered some hotel private rooms and slept with a prostitute, but Eghobamien according to the
writer, he always thought of his wife and his children at home, which I strongly believe that it
was a true sense of love for his family (Barrett, 2013, p 76-80).

In addition, I did not like the way the writer used a lot of Nigerian pidgin English that was not
easy for a reader like who does not know the Nigerian pidgin English. Therefore, I strongly
suggest that the writer should have used understandable English words that are quite simply to
assimilate by the readers so that even the time the reader could have used thinking about the
meaning of the Nigerian pidgins is saved for other activities.

Furthermore, according to the writer’s information, I realized that some parents love their
children by giving them the right training of mind set (Barrett, 2013, p 73)

Finally, love is indeed important that I strongly urge everyone not to pretend but show love to
everyone outside there.
