DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ROCKS FROM SOIL

Soil is formed when the disintegration of rock occur. Rock are formed when the molten magma reaches
the earth surface . Both rock and soil are mineral composition but the basic difference is a soil is a LOOSE
MASS and rock is a HARD MASS.

Soil Formation: Soil is formed slowly as rock (the parent material) erodes into tiny pieces near the Earth's
surface. Organic matter decays and mixes with inorganic material (rock particles, minerals and water) to
form soil.

EXAMPLES OF SOIL PROBLEMS

Soil compaction, low organic matter, loss of soil structure, poor

internal drainage, salinisation and soil acidity problems are other
serious soil degradation conditions that can accelerate the soil
erosion process. This Factsheet looks at the causes and effects of
water, wind and tillage erosion on agricultural land.Deforestation.
Without plant cover, erosion can occur and sweep the land into
rivers. The agricultural plants that often replace the trees cannot
hold onto the soil and many of these plants, such as coffee, cotton,
palm oil, soybean and wheat, can actually worsen soil erosion.
