A LIFE OF A CHILD WITH DOWN SYNDROME

Rationale

Children with Down Syndrome usually mild to moderate mental retardation. Compared
with other children, youngsters with Down Syndrome have more similarities to their children
they differences. They attend school, and most grow up to live independent and produces. So
we choose this topic because we want to deeply understand the nature of a child having a
Down Syndrome. Their struggles in everyday living and how they cope up with this kind of
society where we are living nowadays.

Statement of the Problem

Statement 1

Although down syndrome can be detected before birth, no cure was discovered until
present. However, children with the disorder usually benefit from caring home environment and
special educational programs that include sensors stimulation, exercises to improve muscle
function and opportunities to increase intellectual function. For the translocation type of Down
Syndrome the parents need to be screened for a possible carrier state for a translocation. If one
of the parents that can be a carrier, a future pregnancy can be produce either a normal child, a
translocation carrier or a child with Down Syndrome.

Statement 2

Studies have shown that persons with Down Syndrome can lead productive lives. With
an average lifespan of 55 years old, intensive early intervention that now offered to maximize
the potential of these individual. In countries overseas, some adults are employed and lead
independent lives. Children with Down Syndrome have more similarities to other children than
they have differences. They attend school, and most grow up to live independent and
productive lives.

Statement 3

Should the level of behavior and management problems decreased over the years?
However most of the children who demonstrated persistent behavior problems from early/mid-
childhood still had problems in the teenage years and need high levels of supervision. Up to the
late childhood years the children rated as having behavior problems were more likely to have
low mental abilities, high excitability scores, a higher incidence of respiratory infections and low
self-sufficiency scores.
