Learning Area BIOLOGY – CHROMOSOME, DNA AND GENE

Grade Level Grade 8

Time Allotment 60 minutes

I. Objectives
A. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of meiosis as one of the
processes producing genetic variations of the Mendelian pattern of
Inheritance.
B. Performance Standard
The learners should be able to report on the importance of variation
plant and animal breeding.
C. Learning Competencies / Write the LC code for each
The learners should be able to predict phenotypic and genotypic
expressions of traits following simple patterns of inheritance.
Code: S8LT-IVf-18
D. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. differentiate chromosome, DNA and gene;
2. create a model of chromosome, DNA and gene; and
3. trace the passing of traits form parent to offspring.
II. Content
The relationship between Chromosome, DNA and Genes

IV. Procedures
Teacher’s Activity Materials/Assessment Tool

A. Before the lesson

Elicit ( 10 minutes)
The teacher will provide an activity sheet wherein the
learners will identify the missing parts of a cell and they
Activity Sheet
will describe the functions of these organelles (drawing
activity-by group). Their outputs will be posted and
reported to the class.
Key Questions:
 What is the function of the NUCLEUS?
 What is PRESENT in the nucleus?
Engage (5 minutes)
Four Pics One Word
The teacher will let the learners play four pics in one PowerPoint presentation for the
word. The game will engage the learners to the topic by game
guessing the correct word that will describe the
pictures. (Learners were given an advance reading
assignment for the topic)
Explore (10 minutes)
Let the learners create model of Genes, DNA, and Manila Paper
Chromosomes using clay. (Group Activity) Clay
Explain (5 minutes)
Presentation of outputs
The learners will present to the class their outputs and
will share also their ideas about the different words
based on the guideline questions on the activity sheet.
Key Question:
How chromosome, DNA and gene are related to each
other?
Elaborate (20 minutes)
Power Point and video presentation will be shown to
the class to clarify the concepts and correct the PowerPoint presentation and video
misconceptions.
Evaluate (10 minutes)
The teacher will give 15-item test

Extend (next day)

On a short bond paper, look for a picture of your mother
and your father. Identify the traits you inherit from your
parents respectively.
Example:
Mother Father
Curly Hair Tall Height
Fair complexion Round Face Shape
