Richard Phillips Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, in Queens, New York City, to
Lucille née Phillips and Melville Arthur Feynman. Feynman was a late talker, and did not
speak until after his third birthday. The young Feynman was heavily influenced by his
father, who encouraged him to ask questions to challenge orthodox thinking, and who was
always ready to teach Feynman something new.
In 1941, with World War II raging in Europe but the United States not yet at war,
Feynman spent the summer working on ballistics problems at the Frankford Arsenal in
Pennsylvania. After the attack on Pearl Harbor had brought the United States into the war,
Feynman was recruited by Robert R. Wilson, who was working on means to produce
enriched uranium, as part of what would become the Manhattan Project.
Feynman was an American theoretical physicist, known for his work in the path integral
formulation of quantum mechanics, the theory of quantum electrodynamics, and the physics
of the superfluidity of supercooled liquid helium. For his contributions to the development
of quantum electrodynamics, Feynman received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1965.

Big Ben was designed by Augustus Pugin in a neo-gothic style. When completed in 1859,
its clock was the largest and most accurate four-faced striking and chiming clock in the
world. The tower stands 315 feet (96 m) tall, and the climb from ground level to the belfry is
334 steps. Its base is square, measuring 39 feet (12 m) on each side. Dials of the clock are 23
feet (7.0 m) in diameter.
The tower is a British cultural icon recognised all over the world. It is one of the most
prominent symbols of the United Kingdom and parliamentary democracy, and it is often
used in the establishing shot of films set in London. The clock tower has been part of a
Grade I listed building since 1970 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
Kintaro’s mother gave birth to him in Sakata, Yamagata. She was forced to flee,
however, due to fighting between her husband and his uncle. She finally settled in the forests
of Mount Ashigara to raise her son. Later, Kintaro's real mother left him in the wild and he
was raised by a mountain witch.
As a toddler, Kintarō was active and indefatigable, plump and ruddy. His friends were
mainly the animals of Mt. Kintoki and Mt. Ashigara. He was also phenomenally strong, able
to smash rocks into pieces, uproot trees, and bend trunks like twigs. His animal friends
served him as messengers and mounts, he even learned to speak their language.
As an adult, Kintarō changed his name to Sakata no Kintoki. He met the samurai
Minamoto no Yorimitsu as he passed through the area around Mt. Kintoki. Yorimitsu was
impressed by Kintarō's enormous strength, so he took him as one of his personal retainers to
live with him in Kyoto. Kintoki studied martial arts there and eventually became the chief of
Yorimitsu's Shitenno, renowned for his strength and martial prowess. He eventually went
back for his mother and brought her to Kyoto as well.
