Introduction

Type 1 – Series :

In series completion (numbers, letters, combination of numbers and letters, figures),

one is required to study and observe the given series, find the appropriate pattern
followed by the terms given in the series either by identifying the missing term or
wrong term. Relationship or pattern between numbers can be odd/even, prime/
composite, squares/cubes of some numbers with/without variation of addition or
subtraction of some numbers, sum/product/difference of preceding numbers and
many more combinations.

Type 2 – Completion of Figure Pattern :

In this type of questions, a figure pattern is given, in which a part of a given figure is
missing, followed by options. One need to choose the best option amongst the given
options which completely fit in the pattern or completes the figure.

Type 3 – Inserting the Missing Character :

In this type of questions, a set of terms following a certain pattern is given. One is
expected to find the relation or pattern followed in the given terms and find the
missing character. These terms consists of a figure or set of figures, an arrangement
or a matrix that bears certain characters like numbers, letters and combination of both
following a certain pattern.

Type 4 – Figure Matrix :

In this type of question, a set of figures follows the same rule either row-wise or
column-wise. One is expected to analyze the set of figures and identify the rule and
then find the missing figure from the set of given options.

Answers

Correct
Question Hint/Explanation
answer
1 C Time difference between any two consecutive watches is 42 minutes

2 A Every nth pattern as 2n+2 squares

In the first row, first block has triangle, square, circle; second block has square, circle,
3 A triangle; third block has circle, triangle, square; Then third block in the first row becomes
the first block in the second row and pattern continues.

Difference between second and first term is 3; third and second term is 5; fourth and
4 C
third term is 7 and the pattern continues

5 C Difference between any 2 consecutive terms are doubling starting with 3

6 D Self-explanatory

Find the product of first and second number, second and third number. Add them up to
7 A
get the number in the triangle below. For example, (147 × 3) + (3 × 116) = 789

8 B Self-explanatory

9 D Sum of any two terms gives the immediate next term

10 B Self-explanatory

Find the product of third number and second number and subtract by 1 gives the fourth
11 C
number in column 1 and pattern continues for all columns

In each row, the third figure comprises of a circle and only those line segments which are
12 A
not common to first and second figures

Third figure in each row comprises of the parts that are not common to first and second
13 C
figure
In each row, the second figure is obtained from the first figure by reversing the direction
14 A of the RHS arrow and third figure is obtained from the second figure by reversing the
direction of both the arrows
Two parts of first figure are rearranged and joined along the longer sides. Common side
15 B
is then lost to form second figure

In each row, the central part of the first figure rotates either 90 degrees clockwise or
anticlockwise to form the central part of the second figure and central part of first figure
16 A
rotates through 180 degrees to form the central part of the third figure. Also, in each
row, there are 3 types of side elements namely rectangles, circles and triangles

Question Hint/Explanation
answer
17 C Second figure is a part of first figure (but not exactly the same as the first figure)

Second row is multiplied with certain number to get first row. Similarly, third row is
18 C
multiplied with same number to get fourth row

19 C

20 D Every odd positioned term decreases by 10. Every even positioned term decreases by 5.

Multiply the numbers that are placed diagonally. Add them to get the number in the
21 D
center

22 B Squaring both the numbers at the top and adding them to get the number at the bottom

Find the product of two numbers and subtracting the number at the bottom side of the
23 A
triangle gives a number in the center of triangle

Square the number in the left and subtract the number in the right gives the number in
24 B
the circle

5 sided closed figure remains the same. Outer line gets incremented by 1, 2 and 3 for the
25 D
first three figures and the pattern continues.

26 B Self-explanatory

27 D Difference between two numbers in the sequential order increases by (2 times + 1)

28 A Pattern goes like (8 × 1) – 2 = 6; (6 × 2) – 3 = 9; (9 × 3) – 4 = 23; and so on

29 D Self-explanatory

Shaded block shifts to next column diagonally. The letter T shifts to next column with
30 C
one block diagonally along with an orientation of 90 degree clockwise

31 A Difference between two successive numbers follow a series pattern of 1, 3, 9, 27, 81.

32 D Pattern continues after every 7th letter.
