• ETYMOLOGY: came from “Litera”, a Latin word that means
“an acquaintance with letters”.
• a body of literary productions (oral, written or visual)
• contains imaginative language
• portrays thoughts, emotions and experiences
• provides insights and intellectual stimulation
• a product of a particular culture
• a creation of human experience
• reflects the works of imagination, aesthetics and creative
writing

• Intellectual Value: stimulates critical thinking
• Suggestiveness: unravels and conjures man’s
emotional power
