Seminar Objectives
This seminar will give you an opportunity to explore issues relevant to new students in a university
environment, while learning more about issues relevant to students in your discipline. When you
complete this seminar you should have a better understanding of the University and issues
important to the UT community. You will become familiar with models of learning while focusing
on your own academic goals. Most importantly, you will have experience working collaboratively
with other students and develop important skills to ensure your academic success.
Seminar Goals
You should be able to demonstrate the following abilities during and upon completion of this
seminar:
• Examine your strengths and abilities to be successful in an academic environment leading
to educational and professional success;
• Learn and develop skills necessary to succeed in a college environment;
• Understand college and university rules, resources, and services;
Attendance
Active participation will reflect as much upon your commitment to the group's success as it will
upon your personal dedication to success at UT. Attendance will be taken at each seminar. As a
courtesy, please notify your peer mentor prior to any absence.
Religious Holy Days
By UT Austin policy, you must notify your instructor of your pending absence at least fourteen days
prior to the date of observance of a religious holy day.
