“Influence of Broken Homes on Academic Performance and

Personality Development of the Adolescents in Lagos State
Metropolis” is considered to be a scholarly article written by
Igbinosa Victor Omoruyi. The article is composed of a study that
takes place in Nigeria where the main idea of his work is to
determine the influential aspects of divorced or conflicting parents,
single parent homes, and low economic status on their child
(Omoruyi 10). Omoruyi states this topic is important due to the
major impact of “the home environment on students’ academic
achievement” (14). With the study focusing on Nigeria, the article
explains how Nigerian families run into parental conflicts often as
parents tend to travel overseas to receive more money. This
normally ends in separation of the parents, and little to no
communication with their children (14). With that said, researchers
have studied how this situation affects a child’s academic
performance.
